Arpaio to launch 14th immigration sweep Thursday

PHOENIX (AP) - The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office will launch a 2-day crime and immigration sweep Thursday.

The sweep's location hasn't yet been released. Four hundred deputies and volunteer posse members will take part in the patrols.

It will be Sheriff Joe Arpaio's 14th sweep since early 2008.

During the sweeps, deputies flood an area of a city - in some cases heavily Latino areas - to seek out traffic violators and arrest other alleged lawbreakers.

Of course, I can't really blame everyone in the county for that asshole.

Broad-brush statements are always going to insult innocent people, but putting in the necessary disclaimers every time just takes the wind out of the sails.

For comparison, I live in Minnesota, the state which foisted Michele Bachmann upon the world. If I lived in her district I certainly would have voted against her.

As it is, whenever someone knocks all Minnesotans because of that batshit crazy ... I'll just say person ... I don't mind. She's not my fault, but until the MN 6th has the sense to oust her -- or until the rest of us rise up and lay waste to that enormous trash heap north of the twin cities -- I say all of our state is fair game.

14. I saw this...

two blocks from my house. A pickup with police lights (the sneaky kind) and two unmarked SUVs had a couple of men sitting on the ground while 3-4 guys in POLICE vests and shorts stood around talking. Wow. All that manpower for a couple of gardeners.
