Progressive Groups, Labor On Hand To Support Obama
Source: Talking Points Memo

From Evan McMorris-Santoro: Organized groups from AFSCME, Center for American Progress and other left-leaning groups are on hand to support President Obama's rally for in Virgina today. With the debate nearing an end, the groups he has sometimes fought with as the debate over reform has progressed have coalesced around the bill up for a final vote in the House this weekend.

The groups, in green AFSCME t-shirts and gray Center for American Progress shirts, are scattered throughout the crowd. It's possible they might be called on to shout down tea party activists, who rumor has it are part of the audience as well.

1. Well, they can't be "real" progressives then...

Good on the PROGRESSIVE groups who are understand what progress really is.

2. Agree Spazito
No way would the insurance companies pour millions and millions of dollars in advertising and gifts to their proxies like the Chamber of Commerce unless they realized this bill gives power to the average person. Sure the bill isn't free medical care for all, but it is a foot in the door. Dems need to get geared up to fight for Dems in the fall because otherwise the Repubs who are proxies for the insurance giants will take away this small step toward progress.

5. Yep, progress is incremental...
and ongoing, it is the way historic changes occur as opposed to the ideal being realized in 'one fell swoop'. The Dems need only to hang on the the House and Senate after the mid-term elections so there can be legislation passed to fix the horrific 'judgment' of the scandalous 'gang of five' Supreme Court poseurs and to give the American public time to see the positive effects of the healthcare bill, imo.

4. meanwhile the labor movement is really saying....
what has he really done for us? other than a few construction projects the majority of union members are still being cut, hours reduced, and forced into strikes or locked out. so far he`s done nothing to restore the tax base in this country and with out that the public sector unions are forced into begging for their jobs and pay. if "public option" is any indicator the card check is`t going to happen.

the labor unions are watching the teachers union being dismantled by obama and his billionaire club and they ain`t happy. no one expected a democratic president is doing something only reagan and his gang of thugs could dream about. as soon as the unions start asking about card check and other labor friendly programs the billionaires will have a chat with obama and he`ll "compromise"

next month the asfme and other unions are going to my state capital to beg for more money so we can have jobs,health-care, and pensions. the manufacturing base is gone, the tax base is shrinking ,and the services are more in demand. those problems need to be addresses at the federal level.

i guess we`ll wait and see but time is running out.
