Russian Diplomat Sees U.S. Arms Pact In Days: Report

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian and U.S. negotiators could finalize a new nuclear arms treaty within days, RIA news agency quoted a Russian deputy foreign minister as saying on Monday.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in Moscow on Friday that the Cold War foes were "on the brink" of final agreement on a successor to the expired 1991 START pact.

The state-run RIA quoted deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov as saying: "We are on the verge; I think that this business will be wrapped up in the coming days."

Other Russian officials have said the treaty could be ready for signing in April. Negotiations are being held in Geneva.
