DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — President Barack Obama will speak about health care Thursday in Iowa City, marking passage of the historic legislation by returning to the place where he proposed his reform plan in 2007 while campaigning for the Democratic nomination.

Obama will “discuss how health care insurance reform lowers costs for small businesses and American families and gives them more control over their health care,” according to a White House official who spoke Monday on condition of anonymity because the trip has not been formally announced.

The visit will come four days after the House approved a bill extending health care to millions of uninsured Americans and preventing insurance companies from denying coverage on the basis of pre-existing medical conditions. Obama could sign the bill as soon as Tuesday.

Obama chose Iowa City because the eastern Iowa college town was where he first offered his health care plan on May 29, 2007. The White House official said the plan launched “a grassroots campaign for reform that led directly to the legislation passed this week.”

2. Boy....I'm just amazed at Democrats that
Edited on Mon Mar-22-10 04:43 PM by FrenchieCat
whine until there's nothing left.

Maybe next time we want something that badly,
we'll get our asses out there and work it
trying to get it
instead of arguing on the Internet with each other as to which...
Single payer or the PO is bettest.

One can only get exactly what they want when they are willing to fight for it...
and I mean, actually doing something besides complaining on the Internet,
and signing petitions, and then still, one might not get all they demanded.

Thank God a grown up is running the country!

5. I for one wish he'd keep his behind in DC and let these idiots chill
The climate & rhetoric is ugly and I'm afraid for his safety. These fools are off the plantation right now due to their own ignorance.

6. I was there in 2007
I was 15 feet away from Obama when he announced his health plan back then (admittedly, I wasn't that impressed, as I am strongly in favor of single payer). However, it was very exciting to see and hear him up close. He toured the university lab facilities with people I work with, and a few of them were even included in photos on campaign brochures - it was pretty cool. :)

I hope he comes to the same location in IC for this event, and I hope I can get in. It probably won't be as easy...

9. Any word yet on where Obama will have the HC bill signing? On South lawn like when ADA
was signed by (GHW) Bush?
