White House, experts: Health care suit will fail

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The White House says it isn't worried that 13 state attorneys general are suing to overturn the massive health care overhaul, and many legal experts agree the effort is futile.

But the lawsuit, filed in federal court seven minutes after President Barack Obama signed the 10-year, $938 billion health care bill, underscores the divisiveness of the issue and the political rancor that has surrounded it.

Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum led the effort to file the suit that claims Congress doesn't have the constitutional right to force people to get health coverage. It also says the federal government is violating the Constitution by forcing a mandate on the states without providing resources to pay for it.

"To that I say, 'Bring it on,'" said White House domestic policy chief Melody Barnes, who cited similar suits filed over Social Security and the Voting Rights Act when those were passed. "If you want to look in the face of a parent whose child now has health care insurance and say we're repealing that ... go right ahead."

8. That's it
As much as we think corporations just give to the Republicans they actually give money where they think it will benefit them the most. The currently give to Republicans because they are willing to carry water for the big corporations, but if the Democrats show that they can pass bills without the Republicans and Republicans are shown to be as ineffective and inept as they have appeared recently the corporations my decide it is better to support the Democrats and try to get influence that way.

17. RepubliCONS will NOT look a parent in the face while taking away their child's health care coverage.
RepubliCONS are notorious for doing cruel things to Americans behind their backs. Like the energy policies under the bushes and negotiations for hostages in Iran and sales of arms to Saddam under Raygun. It's always done behind the backs of the voters.

6. Please, people explain something to me here.
I'm really hoping this bill can be amended. We are all calling this a "health insurance" bill not a health reform bill, yet the insurance industry and their lackey Rethugs are very upset about it. So, can we reform this bill by adding amendments like anti-trust? Like inserting a public option? And would those amendments be dragged out as badly as this bill was by having a vote in both houses or by some other parliamentary procedure?

11. Bring it on? Oh no she didn't say that, did she?
The policy chief for Obama's White House said "bring it on" ???

Do they not remember the last time that phrase was used and how well it worked for Bush in 2003?

16. I still do not understand how they can even file a suit before anyone has even been harmed...
In fact the individual mandate does not even go into effect until 2014. So will any court take a case based on future events? Seems unlikely.
