Gingrich blames Democrats for rising tide of threats, violence
Source: Atlanta Journal Constitution

At a press conference this morning in Buckhead, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich was asked about the acts of violence directed at the offices of Democratic congressmen and the threats of violence and death directed at their persons.

At first, Gingrich was blunt in his condemnation, saying there was no place for it in American politics. “I oppose anybody using vile language, making threats,” he said. “The right way in America, if you disagree, is to win an election.”

However, when Gingrich was asked whether GOP leaders ought to speak out against the violence, he brushed the suggestion aside and in fact blamed Democrats for bringing it upon themselves.

“I think there’s something very disingenuous with the Democrat leaders who attack the Tea Party movement, who refuse to hold town hall meetings, who refuse to go back home, who kept the Congress locked up in Washington, and are now shocked that people are angry,” Gingrich said. “I think the Democratic leadership has to take some real responsibility (for choosing) to use corrupt tactics that bought votes, that bullied people and as a result has enraged much of the American people. And I think it would be nice for President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid to take SOME responsibility for what THEIR actions have done to this country.”

31. What incident a couple of years ago? Got a link? The only one I remember
Edited on Thu Mar-25-10 01:49 PM by No Elephants
a couple of years ago was a RW looney toon who cut her own cheek in a mirror and therefore got the letters backwards.

Nothing is wrong with deem and pass. Republicans used it 100 timnes under Gingrich. Or was it Delay?

"There's now a Republican claiming to be shot at."

So? Any proof that it happened? Any proof that a Dem did it? Anybody can claim anything.

P.S. What does any of what you wrote in your post have to do with Newt's refusal to condemn things like death threats?

8. It must be wonderful to lead such a blameless life
to be able to abandon successive wives and families with no conscience, to have your ideas tried and fail and think they were simply not tried long enough, to think your colleagues are also leading blameless lives.

Gingrich is rapidly turning himself into a caricature.

10. Typical.
These sorts also tend to blame rape victims for wearing too short of a skirt - or for having the audacity of being simply female.

Republicans have finally crossed the line. I've detested them for a couple decades now (since the Clinton Impeachment nonsense), but I am no longer guilt-ridden for detesting them. It's like a badge of honor now.

Leave it to this ass to come up with this theory. You mean to tell me the Republicans never did any of this stuff like bullying people and corrupt tactics. That was their modus operandi on a lot of stuff. Again, he blames everyone else except his own party and those lunatic Tea Partiers. You are totally out of it!

Gingrich is the man who used to send out lists of words for Republicans to use or avoid. Him and his NLP crap.

Of course he's not serious about *what* he's saying. He's deadly serious about trying to turn this back onto the Democrats.

If Democrats do not come out to a designated area for our Fox News mobilized rabble to shoot them then the rabble will have to come find them to shoot them. It's the Democrats fault because they could have gotten this over and just been shot a long time ago so America could be restored.

26. Ah, the party of "personal responsbility" is at it again...
Newt, the members of YOUR party and its various media mouthpieces have spent a decent part of the last year ranting and raving about "death panels", claiming that health insurance legislation would "destroy America", and in some cases, comparing President Obama to people such as Hitler and Mao. So, Newt, please remind me again exactly how your party is not responsible for these recent threats and incidents of vandalism?

i think a small part of it is that the medfia think gringrinch is a moderate level headed Repube at least compared to the new R leaders. So they go to him hoping for a semi-sane statement.
