54. No it's not
Edited on Thu Mar-25-10 05:57 PM by rpannier
When Bush got 50+Cheney on tax cuts that was a majority

When Pelosi was elected Speaker in 2006 unanimously, that was only a slim and divisive plurality

When Trent Lott was elected by 1 vote (whatever he was elected to for the Republicans in the Senate in 06) that was a decisive and unifying majority.

56-43 is only 13 votes -- for the Democrats.
So it is divisive and creates dissatisfaction within the Party.
Heads will roll

Hope that helps

13. Momentum is ours again
Say what you will about the health care bill, but I'm enjoying the feeling of the Dems being unstoppable in congress.

I'm hoping that the outpouring of support about HC reform will push them to banding together and supporting more progressive legislation. Our party is united, except for a cranky few people who are never happy with ANYTHING.

Maybe, just maybe, President Obama and Nancy Pelosi were waiting for his masterpiece of HC reform to pass before he pushes congress to pass legislation to correct other major causes of social injustice and inequality.

23. Blanche Lincoln, Ben Nelson, and Mark Pryor
Edited on Thu Mar-25-10 02:57 PM by muriel_volestrangler
according to Ezra Klein: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2010/03/senate_passes_reconciliation_f.html

which presumably means 1 Republican didn't vote. And Lieberman voted for it, I guess.

On edit: the Repub was Isakson, in hospital: http://politics.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474978129539

60. That's because he killed the original Senate Bill's public option
He threatened to filibuster with Republicans if a public option was included, leaving Democrats one vote short of cloture. So yes, he voted for final passage but on his own terms.

41. Uhhhhh......no.
No there's not. However, you WILL be allowed to buy a policy(if you can afford it, since there are no caps on the premiums charged) from one of the fine, fine health insurance companies that are responsible for the current state of affairs, you LUCKY dog, you! I'm right there with ya.

But wait, there's more...the real 'po folk will get susidies to buy insurance! Maybe even pennies on the dollar! If that's still not enough..well, we'll just have to buck up and pay the fine, and still not have health insurance. But in theory, Socal31..it's a great victory!!!! Is pyrrhic victory the term I'm looking for here? Don't worry...the HCR bill will be "improved" later..just like NAFTA has been! Baby steps, just don't hold your breath. And please...don't get sick. We all know the rest of that.....

51. NAFTA! Yeah! We've had lots of do-overs there.
Obama promised. Well, maybe he didn't.

If we did have do-overs on NAFTA, maybe we'd have more people who got decent affordable health care through their unions or their employers.

Maybe the Ford Fusion would be made here. Wouldn't that be something?

All I'm hoping for now is that the U.S. Army or government paid mercenaries won't be sent to Mexico to protect the factories of U.S. based companies when the drugs and the end of the oil bonanza give that country a one-two punch.

45. So who where the 3 that voted NO - I'm assuming Lincoln, Leiberman - who else?
Leiberman isn't our party so we exepcted that. Lincoln is pretty much a lame duck. If the primaries don't get her then she will probably lose in the general election. Even Emily's List won't donate a dime to her re-election.
