Chrysler to revive 50 dead dealerships
By Blake Ellis, staff reporter
March 26, 2010: 2:16 PM ET

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Chrysler Group will to offer to reinstate 50 of the 789 dealers terminated last year as part of the automaker's bankruptcy, the company said Friday.

Half of those Chrysler shut down -- nearly 400 former dealers -- filed last month for an arbitration hearing to appeal their termination. The 50 chosen by Chrysler to rejoin its network are among those who had appeals pending. The automaker said it will send them letters of intent offering reinstatement as "full-line" representatives.

"The 50 dealers are in locations that offer customer service benefits and will have limited adverse impact on the dealers within our current network," Chrysler said in a statement.

These dealers should receive their letters "within the next few days," according to a company spokeswoman. Under the terms of the agreement, the dealerships will need to meet "standard conditions" for capitalization, facility buildout and management, she said.

1. I hope there is a renewed emphasis on improving the customer service
a lot of GM dealers could use a refresher course on that, too...

5. What Chrysler customer service???
I owned 6 new Chrysler cars over the years and never got anything remotely related to customer service from them. They never honored their warranties either. Finally woke up and realized they're nothing but a sham of a car company after purchasing 2 LEMONS from them. I could build a better car with my bare hands then they could ever make.

8. Chrysler has built some the best cars the world has ever seen

The new Challenger is the car most favored by it's owners in Consumer Reports and 40 year old ones bring hundreds of thousands of dollars at auctions. The new Ram truck is the most advanced pickup truck on the planet and is even grudging recommended by the Consumer Reports (It would have strained their credibility if they didn't).. A Jeep Wrangler has one of the highest resale values of any vehicle, is one of the most durable vehicles and has a large and enthusiastic following. Dodge Chargers are popular with the hip hop crowd and law enforcement. Chrysler is a strong player in minivans and VW liked them so much they rebadged them instead of building a new VW bus. The legendary Dodge Cummins diesels help build America every day and are beloved by many hard working entrepreneurs. Barack Obama even used to drive a Chrysler 300C.

Most of these cars are built by the United Auto Workers, one of the most progressive forces in American history. You may worship the foriegn car, but why piss off hard working fellow allies in the fight with such a snarky statement?

BTW, FIAT likes the Dodge Challenger so much that they're going put a four door Italian design body over top it's platform and build the baddest Alfa Romeo sedan in years.

10. Baddest Alfa in Italy right now...
I really like these things. I don't know why. I wish I could import the Carabineri version and hoon around Los Angeles in it.

Not long ago I was reading some motorhead site. An American was talking about restoring his Lancia Zagato. While dismantling the sheet metal, he found part of an Italian road sign. Not accident results - the Zagato workshop had formed it as part of the body. A road sign. Just amazing...

7. You are right on the refresher course. Took our Saturn in prior to the letter
stating we had to take it to a certain service department. They basically laughed at me and said we don't service Saturn's and this was our local GM dealership. My father, a 35 year retired GM employee told me to email GM, so I did and got a bot response. The sad thing is I have been a loyal GM guy because of my father working at GM. No more, looking at another company for our next car purchase. They just don't have a clue.
