Cardinal 'will not be forced to resign'

By Michael McHugh, Press Association
Saturday, 27 March 2010

Reports that the Vatican intends to force the resignation of the head of the Catholic Church in Ireland over the paedophile priests scandal have been dismissed by his spokesman today.

Cardinal Sean Brady has apologised for his role in the handling of sex abuse cases. He has said he wants to work towards a just resolution of a case being taken against him by a man who claims he was abused by Father Brendan Smyth but not enough was done to stop his attacker.

The Northern Ireland Assembly prepared last night to order an official investigation into child abuse in Northern Ireland after details emerged of more attacks on children by members of the clergy.

Cardinal Brady's spokesman said: "This kind of headline on a story I would not dignify with a response. We are entering Palm Sunday and Holy Week and the universal Church is focused on the celebration of the Resurrection and all that it means for the Church."

Using the upcoming religious holidays as an excuse for their stonewalling is akin as the American rightwing drapping themselves in the flag to deflect criticism aimed at them.

1. Another week, another molester exposed.
Not a week goes by anymore that another one of these sick priests get exposed and STILL the sick freaks running the Catholic Church gives them cover. These bishops and cardinals need to be indicted, tried, convicted and jailed and the Vatican should be forced to pay full restitution for the crimes they've committed!

2. Ahhh, the vaunted 'Republicon Strategery'
"Jeebus forgives the Saintly Bugger, so shut up and sit down all you noisy prolees, while we 'elite and elect' cronies give him a Standing O."

4. Maybe it is time for the members of the church to have a Catholic Reformation.
It wouldn't be a case of them leaving the church, but of a corrupt and evil church turning its back on them. A church which knowingly allows pedophile priest to prey upon these trusting children is the epitome of evil.

7. "We are entering Palm Sunday"
Cardinal Brady's spokesman said: "This kind of headline on a story I would not dignify with a response. We are entering Palm Sunday and Holy Week and the universal Church is focused on the celebration of the Resurrection and all that it means for the Church."

Freudian reference aside, that's like saying, "Let's not discuss right-wing terrorism because we are entering a period of respect for the Columbine massacre the OKC bombing Hitler's birthday."

9. I think the pope may end up going (resigning, due to health?) in............
...............this. The church will be hurt by this from now on, and rightly fucking so. These fucking idiots should issue a proclamation or whatever you call the fucking "holy writ" to let future priests marry or be married. "Most" of the losers now are already "perverted" beyond repair. Oh, and my final last thing, tax them too!

11. you don't have to resign unless you do something REALLY bad
like support a woman's right to choose, or gay marriage. Then you are out in a flash.

13. Denial doesn't even have to be plausible anymore
They are their own undoing. Arrogance, obtuseness, unbending stubborness and stupidity are a bad mix destined to rot to the core. Worse than being morally rotted, the Roman Catholic Church has rotted spiritually, and it is exposed for all to see.
