Sarkozy Urges World Finance Rules in US Speech
Source: Associated Press

French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Monday urged the United States to champion global financial regulations to avoid future crises -- and says Americans should pay more attention to the rest of the world.

Sarkozy, in a frank speech at Columbia University in New York, said the United States ''should reflect about what it means to be the world's No. 1 power.''

He says, ''The world needs an open America, a generous America, an America that shows the way, an America that listens.''

He urged Europe and the United States to create a new global financial system.

1. Our politicians
from both "parties", forced us into "the global economy" or "free trade." They believe that only the corporations should benefit from this. B.S. If we are going to remain in "free trade" pacts, then our only choice is to prosper like the corporations do. We should get single payer health insurance, 5 weeks paid vacation, paid family maternity leave, all of the perks the European people have fought for. They still have a viable manufacturing base and put people before profits.I wonder if the corporations (government) considered that American citizens would awaken to the disparities in rights that we have with our "free trade partners." We deserve the same perks that Europeans have. We are the greatest country on earth. Lets let no countries citizens be treated better than ours. Just imagine the impact of lowering our incarceration rate to that of European countries. "They" want us to have all of obligations and none of the perks of globalization, unless of course you are wealthy. The taxes of corporations and the wealthy in these countries, guarantee a more proportional distribution of wealth. America has the worst distribution of wealth than any country in the world. Let's demand our rights as well...

4. The world's No. 1 power is not the U.S., but the corporations. And the entire developed world
allowed and enabled that and continues so to do.
