Obamas mark Passover with private Seder
Source: Associated Press

<snip>

"President Barack Obama plans to mark the start of Passover with a private Seder in the executive mansion.

Obama and first lady Michelle Obama invited friends and White House aides to mark the Jewish holiday with a meal on Monday. The Obama aides started the tradition during 2008's primary campaign in Pennsylvania; Obama made a surprise stop to meet with staffers who were sharing an impromptu meal in a hotel basement.

The event continued last year at the White House with a small group of aides and advisers."

4. It's a wonderful and inspiring holiday meal for everyone in the family.
I can see how it would be so appealing to the Obamas. The story is about a people overcoming hardship and struggle and the telling of God's love.

6. Yes. He did it last year as well. It started on the campaign trail in '08, he went to Axelrod's
(or was it Plouffe's?) seder. At the end of the meal it is traditional to say "next year in Jerusalem" and Obama said, "no, next year in the White House!". He honored his promise by becoming the FIRST PRESIDENT IN US HISTORY to host a seder and is doing it again this year.

I heart Obama.

7. I believe so.
Barack Obama to celebrate first presidential Seder (April 9th 2009)

<snip>

"There's a new reason Thursday night will be different from all other nights: Barack Obama is attending what's believed to be the first presidential Seder in the White House.

Administration staffers could find examples of Passover feasts at the White House before, but never one with the President himself honoring the holiday that celebrates the Jews' biblical escape from bondage in Egypt.

Passover meals were held in the Clinton White House, for example, but the commander-in-chief was not involved."

14. I attended a Passover seder once. It was a remarkably beautiful and moving experience.
I got a little tiddly on the Manischiewicz, but everyone was kind and relaxed about it...

. . . and to continue, steadfast, resolute, doing what is right in the world.
