R.N.C. Dismisses Aide Over Outing to Club
Source: NY Times

A Republican Party spokesman said Monday evening that a staff member has been dismissed following a February outing to a risqué Hollywood nightclub, where a party donor submitted a $2,000 tab and asked for reimbursement from the Republican National Committee

Doug Heye, the communications director for the R.N.C., issued this statement:

“At the outset, Chairman Steele was not at Voyeur West Hollywood. He had no knowledge of the expenditure, nor does he find the use of committee funds at such a location acceptable. While some in the press have suggested Chairman Steele was at the venue, he was not and no proof has been offered that he was. When the expense was incurred, Chairman Steele was on United flight # 0084, returning from the RNC Winter Meeting.

“Upon finding out of the expenditure this morning, Chairman Steele demanded the committee get to the bottom of this matter immediately.

“The committee has taken appropriate steps to address the issues relating to the reimbursement of certain expenses. First, as reported, the expenditure in question will be recouped by the RNC. Second, appropriate personnel actions have been taken and accounting and reimbursement processes are being revised to ensure that such an action cannot reoccur. We recognize the difficulty this incident has caused and assure our members and supporters that any necessary and proper remediation is being implemented immediately.

1. Smart man. If someone could have truly connected him to the club he might have been sunk.
Seriously.

4. I think he is sunk anyway. This is the proverbial straw which will break the camel's back.
Not just the nightclub but also the fancy hotels, limos and charter flights. Steele has been living high on the hog courtesy of RNC donors.

2. Steele demanded the committee get to the bottom of this matter immediately
Well if that is your thing then some of the employees of the club Voyeur could have
helped in getting to the bottom of things.

Who do they think they are fooling? This is only a problem because
people found out about it. So if they give Steele a pass on the SM / Lesbian
sex club shows what about the $ for the Beverly Hills Hotel, the 4 seasons
restaurant, and the private jet?

3. "...no proof has been offered that he (Steele) was (at the night club). "
Does anyone think that this is kind of an odd denial? I don't believe Steele was there either but I am willing to bet he knew about it before now. It happened in February.

16. Yep, "low level staffer" gets scapegoated AGAIN. But why do so many staffers for the RNC keep
screwing up since Michael Steele became chair? Inquiring minds want to know. Funny, the DNC doesn't seem to have these kinds of problems and neither did the RNC BS (before Steele).

8. Please, someone get a hold of this fall guy!
Or, maybe better to wait until a week before the November elections to have him tell the real story of what happened at the bondage club?

9. Oh look. A sacrificial goat.
Still, the RNC is still bleeding money like a stuck pig. Under $10M in cash reserves after a fundraise of $96m. Yup, that should please the wealthy and put money in the bank. NOT.

11. Coincidentally, Karl Rove was in Hollywood taping Leno today.

You never see a Monday morning story like this unless Rove is involved.

He wants Steele gone.

20. GOP fires staffer over $1,946 topless club visit
Source: AP

WASHINGTON — The Republican National Committee has fired a staffer who helped organize a $1,946 visit last month to a sex-themed Hollywood club, and the GOP says it will recoup the money from a donor who also participated.

The episode is the latest in a string of questionable spending by the RNC as Republicans prepare for a costly election season in which they hope to take dozens of House and Senate seats from Democrats.

An RNC internal memo says the Feb. 4 outing to Voyeur West Hollywood involved several members of the "Young Eagles" GOP group who had been in Los Angeles for a meeting. An unnamed staffer, who had been warned that such activities did not qualify for reimbursement, has been fired, said the memo from RNC lawyer Ken McKay.

The club features topless dancers and bondage outfits.
