Arrest warrant issued for Las Vegas U.S. Senate candidate
Source: KTNV

Las Vegas, NV- A local candidate for U.S. Senate could soon also be a candidate for jail.

The Clark County District Attorney's office has submitted paperwork for the arrest of Tea Party candidate Scott Ashjian.

Ashjian lost his contractor's license last Wednesday when he didn't show for a disciplinary hearing.

Two days later, the district attorney's office filed charges on him for felony theft.

They say he wrote a bogus check for $5,000 to a businessman in December.

Thousands of people trekked to Searchlight over the weekend for a Tea Party rally dubbed the "Conservative Woodstock."

Among those people, you'd expect to find Tea Party candidate for U.S. Senate, Scott Ashjian from Las Vegas.

"We're trying to be uniters, not dividers," he told Action News in a recent interview.

But it seems the Tea Party is trying to divide itself from Ashjian, amid allegations.

"We at the Tea Party Express have a message for Scott Ashjian, who has been trying to pretend he's involved in the Tea Party movement: get lost," says a political advertisement that's airing on TV.

Right now, at the Regional Justice Center, an arrest warrant for Ashjian is waiting to be signed by a judge.

He's accused of writing bad checks for his asphalt business.

"It's probably time for him to start considering that his short lived political career may well be over," says Action News political analyst, Elizabeth Crum.

1. If we dig we might find more.
If is a shame that I don't live near a big library. I could go to the fisch or to a video reader and see what dirt I can dig up on all of those used up tea bags. Wouldn't I like to find something of screecher bachmann.

6. Here's some juicy background on Bachmann (on dickipedia)

The bathroom part is under the "Opposition to gay rights" section, last paragraph.

http://www.dickipedia.org/dick.php?title=Michele_Bachmann

During a 2005 community meeting in Scandia, Minnesota, Bachmann was seen running out of a public bathroom crying, "I was being held against my will." In a report filed with the country sheriff, Bachmann claimed that two women "believed to be part of a LGBT group" detained her in the bathroom. She apparently was terrified and feared for her life. The women in question claimed they were simply making conversation with their local senator while waiting in line. The case was dismissed.

3. (Republican) politics at work
Edited on Tue Mar-30-10 04:39 PM by catgirl
I read an article a couple of days ago that showed republicans behind this. While Ashijan may have
committed these crimes, it looks like there are some payback maneuvers in play. I'll look for the
article.

15. Too bad
He might have been Reid's only shot at holding the seat. (unless he swung hard to the left. LOL)

I smell Republican influence in getting this guy out of the way.
