No Reprimand for General Who Pushed Gay Ban
Source: Military.com

WASHINGTON - A high-ranking Army general won't be formally reprimanded after urging troops to lobby to keep the ban on openly gay military service.

President Barack Obama supports lifting the ban, and an active attempt to keep it in place could be considered insubordination.

But Lt. Gen. Benjamin Mixon's civilian boss says the three-star Army general won't receive a letter of reprimand or be forced to step down. Army Secretary John McHugh told reporters Wednesday that Mixon has been told by Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Casey that what he did was inappropriate.

"The chief and I believe that he is now prepared to lead in the very distinguished manner in which he has led in the past and that brought him to a very, very high level three-star position," McHugh said.

"So we will consider the matter closed as of today," he added.

1. So are military generals now considered sacred cows?!?!
When the hell did this start? Maybe the military would be better off with less of them.

2. So being as you are born = not okay. Direct, blatant and disruptive insubordination = OK.
Got it.

Nice to know this jerk is allowed to pop off and vent his spleen without consequence. Sets a FINE example for the troops. :eyes:

3. They may say this publickly
But it most likely will go in his record and he will most likely 'retire' because he'll be barred from re-enlisting

4. Because his attack upon our volunteers in service
was only against gay people, it is not considered a matter of importance by the administration. Typical.

6. What About The Sacred Cow
Called unit cohesion? This General, by his actions, has done more harm to unit cohesion than any grunt coming forward with an announcement that he/she is gay. This is a double standard that should not be condoned.

7. There is a verbal reprimand, and I bet his career is stalled now...
There is formal procedure, and then there is the informal reprimand where his career just stalls.

8. I am going to bet though that he will be quietly retired sometime within the next year
or two when the story cools down some.
