A Brockton man awaiting trial for a double killing in Brockton was found today in his cell at the Plymouth County jail with his throat slashed, Sheriff Joseph D. McDonald Jr.'s office said.

Keith Luke, who has identified himself as a white supremacist and scratched a swastika into his forehead, was discovered in his cell at around 6 a.m. Authorities said he had a "self-inflicted slash wound to the neck.''

In the statement, McDonald's office said "initial reports indicate correction officers followed procedure and the inmate’s single cell inside the jail’s administrative segregation unit is being treated as a crime scene. ''

Plymouth (AP) -- Authorities say a Massachusetts man charged with two racially motivated killings who once showed up in court with a swastika carved into his forehead has been hospitalized with a self-inflicted slash wound to the neck.

The Plymouth County sheriff says 23-year-old Keith Luke was taken to a local hospital after being found in his single cell at 6 a.m. on Thursday, then transferred to a Boston hospital.

Sheriff Joseph McDonald Jr. says an investigation is under way. He did not specify what weapon Luke used.

Luke is being held without bail on charges connected to the slayings in Brockton of two people of Cape Verdean descent in January 2007. He allegedly told authorities he was trying to kill nonwhites and Jews.
