A judge has sentenced an anti-abortion zealot convicted of murdering a prominent Kansas abortion doctor to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 50 years.

Scott Roeder (ROH-der) faced a mandatory life prison term for gunning down Dr. George Tiller in the back of Tiller's Wichita church last May.

Sedgwick County District Judge Warren Wilbert could have made the 52-year-old Roeder eligible for parole after 25 or 50 years. He gave him the harsher sentence because he said the evidence showed Roeder stalked Tiller before killing him....

Even if you believe that abortion as a contraceptive is wrong, you still have to view the work Dr. Tiller did in a completely different light. Yes Dr. Tiller provided extremely rare and extremely dangerous late term abortions--dilation and extraction--but only in extreme medical emergencies when the mother's life was in danger. This was not abortion on demand. This was abortion as a last, gut-wrenching option and Dr. Tiller was there to perform them in a professional and compassionate manner. By all accounts from those that knew him, worked with him and were his patients, Dr. Tiller was a caring and deeply spiritual man who believed that the good he was able to do for women outweighed all the risks to his own life.

Fuck you, Scott Roeder. Fuck you.

11. Listening to his sentencing hearing a bit ago, it was brought up. He is a terrorist.

Those reasons you give are exactly why the judge sentenced him as he did. He knew he was doing wrong but chose to do so. He did it in a church, had planned for yrs to kill him there. He did it for his own purposes. He showed no remorse, kept shouting out over the judge, ranted on for over an hour (judge let him give a statement), was unable to answer "were there any mitigating reasons" beyond making political statements (and being cut off by judge during those "I let you speak for over an hour. Now is not the time for that.")

He is a terrorist indeed.
