Obama hails 'shared spirit of humanity' at Easter

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's Easter address calls on people of all faiths, as well as nonbelievers, to embrace their common aspirations and "shared spirit of humanity."

Obama used his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday to touch lightly on some of his administration's priorities: expanding health coverage, creating jobs and improving education. But his comments were more spiritual than political in tone.

"On this Easter weekend," he said, "let us hold fast to those aspirations we hold in common as brothers and sisters, as members of the same family — the family of man."

Obama noted that Jewish families recently celebrated Passover, and on Sunday, "my family will join other Christians all over the world in marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ."

1. It should be pointed out that Jesus went to the trouble of

putting forth an entire ministry without mentioning gay people, being murdered, then coming back a second time to preach some more, still not mentioning gay people. Seems to me, with that whole 'coming back for more' routine, he'd have spoken on important issues he left out the first time. But he did not say a word against us. Of course he said plenty about hypocrites, those who stand in judgment of others, and religious grand standers.
So strange that his alleged followers have priorities so vastly different from their object of worship. Even in the face of death and resurrection, they can still get up the gumption to put their prejudice above his teachings.

You are so justifiably right! I call Jesus my Savior....and He would never fit the "fundy mold"!! Rather he may turn them out with a whip like the money changers!! I firmly believe "render unto caesar that which is caesar's, and unto God that which is God's" and Judge not lest ye be judged. I'll probably get flamed for being snide, but it annoys me that someone talks about the spirit of humanity while conducting hostile occupations, covert operations abroad, and jailing non-violent offenders by the thousands, and ignoring the plight of the GLBT community here in the US.

Added to that irony is the fact that the xians co-opted the holiday from the pagans.

"Spirit of humanity"? WTF? I don't think he has any, except for corporations. He's never found a corporation he didn't like. Health "care" reform that will break people's backs financially, his big "accomplishment". Oh, and how many "wars" are our young people fighting? He certainly has feelings for those innocents.

Palestinian Christians to be barred from Old City

Palestinians, particularly Christians will be barred from entering Jerusalem's Old City and accessing the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on Saturday, when eastern Orthodox Christians observe Sept An-Nour, or Saturday of light.

Church officials were informed by Israeli police that only international pilgrims would be allowed to access the area, Jerusalem officials said on Wednesday.

On Palm Sunday, West Bank Christians were prevented from participating in the Triumphal Entry procession, which traces the path believed to have been taken by Jesus on his return to the holy city before his death. Though thousands of West Bankers were granted Easter permits so they could access the area, a Passover closure announced the day before the Jewish holiday began shut down checkpoints for permit holders.

It was unclear whether the restrictions would be in place for Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
