Atlanta Black Clergy organization calls for immigration reform

The Concerned Black Clergy (CBC) of Metropolitan Atlanta, Inc., held an immigration rally and a prayer vigil today in front of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Atlanta.

The CBC’s mission is to advocate for the underprivileged in various communities around the country. The organization is mostly composed of African-American ministers and laity. On Monday, they called for the federal government to pass an immigration reform and halt deportations until the bill is passed.

Senators Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., released an outline of the reform in March. According to the legislation, illegal immigrants would have to admit they broke the law, pay penalty fees and back taxes, and perform community service. Before a final approval they would have to pass an English proficiency test and a background check.

The bill also includes more aggressive Social Security card system, which would make it impossible for illegal aliens to get jobs. Employers who’d violate those laws and employed the undocumented would face tough penalties including possible loss of license to operate a business. The legislation also takes steps to ensure more border security through expansion of domestic enforcement to better apprehend and deport undocumented immigrants.

is rallying for the rights of Latinos. The media puts a lot of effort into ginning up hostility between minorities, apparently to keep them from joining forces to achieve their mutual, rightful place.
