VALLETTA, Malta - Pope Benedict XVI met with a group of clerical abuse victims on Sunday and promised them the church would do everything in its power to bring justice to victims and protect young people in the future.

The Vatican said Benedict expressed his shame and sorrow at the pain the men and their families suffered and prayed with them during the meeting at the Vatican's embassy in Malta.

It was the first time Benedict had met with abuse victims since the worldwide clerical abuse scanal engulfed the Vatican earlier this year.

"He prayed with them and assured them that the Church is doing, and will continue to do, all in its power to investigate allegations, to bring to justice those responsible for abuse and to implement effective measures designed to safeguard young people in the future," a Vatican statement said.

2. It's like Republicans who get caught doing something wrong...
They're very sorry and they'll make sure it doesn't happen again until the next time.

Or they'll just be better at not getting caught.

8. That they would have to announce this intention shows just how low
the Church has fallen. Benedict resigning and taking the majority of Cardinals with him, would be a start. Talk is cheap.

10. wow, they will now protect the young? And he thinks that is
some huge moral breakthrough? After years of his personally covering up the abuse. After he and his minions blamed the press, the Jews and of course, the gays for all of their own corruption. What an utter turd this man is. So dishonest.

15. How can we take you at your word, when you have no conception
of what a healthy adult life looks like? These men, this institution, are so far removed from normal life that this statement sounds adequate and acceptible to them. You do your penance, Joseph; go right ahead and recite your phrases. Useless.

16. It is way past time
for the good catholics to stand up and be counted. If they want to stay a catholic then they need to split from the church of Rome and follow their own path instead of letting a foreign country state dictate what they have to believe.

17. Who will protect the young from the Church?
As Jesus said in Matthew 18:6,

"But whoso shall cause one of these little ones that believe on me to stumble, it is profitable for him that a great millstone should be hanged about his neck, and that he should be sunk in the depth of the sea."

Let the splashing begin.

20. It is impossible for the church to protect the children. The only way to protect the children
is to tell people, especially parents, that PRIESTS, CARDINALS, AND POPES ARE HUMAN and have human failings and should not be trusted any more than other humans.

The church is willing to sacrifice children than take this needed step.

22. and we are to believe this guy because he was so passionate in the past about protecting children
Edited on Sun Apr-18-10 10:35 AM by flyarm
when he had the position and power to do so in the past and did nothing but protect the perps?

This from a guy who was a brown-shirt for Hitler..

Some could and would (?) say he himself was abused by being in the brownshirts..but wouldn't that pre-dispose someone to protect other children..but nooooo ..he protected the hierarchy..

And many ran ( and went underground) to not be forced into the Brown-shirts..did this pope do so ..no...I say he is a ruined human being, that will do anything and everything to keep powers strong..at the cost to children of their childhoods..and their mental well being.

This man should and must be removed from the church.

This man is a co-conspirator to sexual crimes against children and humanity.

He has no buisness in the Catholic church or any church.

But he was in business with Neil Bush..or one of the damn *'es..or all of them for all we know.

This man is a criminal for covering up the abuses of those he was charged to administer.

But WTF..there is no "Rule of Law" anymore..and we in the USA have no moral grounds to say otherwise..since our murdering leaders do what they please and walk free and gain billions upon billions in their wallets for being murdering bastards! The sick irony is ,They could have told Hitler how to succeed ..in todays world..

And the coverups by those in power only laugh at our silly asses, because they know they own us and we can do little to stop it..because so many of the sheep fall for silly little phrases like Hope and Change without ever knowing what the definitions of that is..and that hope and change are illusions fed to the masses..because the masses chose to be gullible enough to rince and repeat the fucking crap!

36. He only met with MALE abuse victims?
"The Vatican said Benedict expressed his shame and sorrow at the pain the men and their families suffered and prayed with them during the meeting at the Vatican's embassy in Malta."

???

Was this the result of circumstances in Malta (for instance, the abuse was only of boys in that case), or because of the Church hierarchy's sick, fetishistic bias against women? Female abuse victims don't count? The Pope doesn't like uppity women, of the kind who have been the most vocal about child abuse?

The Church is in no position to "safeguard young people in the future" until it repents of, and corrects, its 1,500 year and on-going sin against women--exclusion of the Mother Goddess from the Trinity ("Father, Son & Holy Ghost"), exclusion of those-without-pricks from the priesthood, designation of women as "unclean" after childbirth, banning women from the altar (the sacred precinct of their male voodoo ritual of turning bread and wine into Christ's body and blood, and then eating them), questioning whether women have souls, sick obsession with controlling women's sexuality, burning women at the stake, and so on. They have rendered themselves incapable of conveying Jesus' simple message--"love thy neighbor"--in the modern world. But it is their ego--their belief that they are special in the eyes of God, versus women--that has led to rampant child abuse. Child abuse is a power trip--by men who think, and who are told over and over again, that they are superior to women in God's eyes, but know, deep down, that they are not. It is a perverted assertion of power. And it is a very, very deep psychosis with a long history. This same Church hierarchy obsesses on its "lineage" back to "Saint Peter"--as if men, all by themselves, can have a "lineage." Their identity is heavily intertwined with this very false notion of men generating men, but they refuse to take responsibility for all of this history--everything that has been done, all the terrible crimes that have been committed, to enforce that "doctrine"--and they lie about it egregiously. They have gone so far from Jesus' path--the true Christian path--that I don't know if they can find their way back to it. But it has to begin with humility--the realization that their sex does not give them special powers or authority. They have made that up. It is SELF-WORSHIP.
