Scott Roeder: Abortion Doctor's Killer Complains Of Treatment In Prison, Files For Early Release

Huffington Post | 04/21/10 02:43 PM | AP

WICHITA, Kan. — The convicted killer of a Kansas abortion provider has filed a petition complaining of his treatment in prison and seeking his release.

A hearing on Scott Roeder's habeas corpus petition is scheduled for June 4 before Judge Timothy Henderson in Wichita. A habeas corpus petition requires that a judge determine whether the government can continue to hold a prisoner.

The court docket shows Roeder filed the initial paperwork himself in February. His court-appointed attorney, Michael Brown, could not immediately be reached for comment.

All the documents in a separate civil case involving Roeder have been sealed. The murder case against him for killing Dr. George Tiller is now under appeal.

Scott Roeder must be one of the few people who fails to realize that Scott Roeder's not a cold blooded sociopath.

13. bwahahahaha
I hope the sheets have so few threads that his skin is rubbed raw every night. I hope the food is so bad that he loses 20 pounds in the first few months. I hope the other inmates treat him like the murderer he is. I hope his days and nights are so boring that he bangs his head against his cell wall for hours at a time. I hope that when that boring day ends, he wakes up the next with even more despair and hopelessness. And then when he thinks he can stand no more, I hope he realizes what he has done to another human being who was helping people who needed him. Then at an old age of life in prison, he dies and know one remembers his name.

40. I would prefer to skip all the rest
and go straight to "I hope he realizes what he has done to another human being who was helping people who needed him." And then I hope he uses what limited potential he has left while undergoing life imprisonment to take a different course, find a different value, and maybe even help someone who needs it.

17. He's filing his own paperwork
I'm sure his court-appointed attorney has pretty much washed his hands of the whole thing, except for routine stuff related to an appeal. What else did we expect Scott Roeder to do all day?

18. I read the petition...
...I started a separate thread in GD on it.

There is no way that asshole drafted this for himself. Yes, it is full of disconnected, irrelevant bullshit ~~ but it is well formatted and does cover the elements of a HC petn. No way is that POS Roeder capable of drafting this.

JMHO

Probably on line, even.

I think he'd find the world a tad unfriendly on the Outside, even worse than it is on the inside.

He really ought to be in a hospital for the criminally insane.

28. Not an issue of mental incompetency ~~
Roeder has less than -0- legal background. Whoever did this petn has some legal knowledge ~~ at least to formatting, citations, etc., and the elements of an HC petn. A pro per with no experience, IMO, could not have produced this document.

42. agreed
I read it in your other thread and it's well formed. I know enough about law to understand it, but I think I'd have had difficulty in drafting it. Clearly, a fair amount of research has gone into it.

38. Sorry, Scotty, No 'Martyrdom On The Cheap' For You!
Sorry, Scotty, but you did a Very Bad Thing when you gunned down Doctor Tiller in church. The police thought so, the district attorney thought so, the court thought so, and that's why you're in prison for the rest of your life.

You did the crime, now do the time.

America complains of his treatment of Dr. Tiller, too.

When he brings Dr. Tiller back to life, Roeder can have some of that better treatment he's requesting.

47. And in other news...
Dr. Tiller files for early release from... death?

Sorry, Mr. Roeder. Your victim won't ever get back what you took from him. His life. You won't get back your life either. You knew what you were doing when you pulled the trigger. You weighed your options, you thought about your consequences. Decided that what you wanted outweighed Mr. Tiller's family and friends. Decided that your wishes for him outweighed Dr. Tiller's "right to life" Placed your own selfish desires over that of another human being. We won't, and shouldn't, kill you for what you did. But you will spend the rest of your life in a cage. If it makes you feel better, that cage is larger than the box in which you put Dr. Tiller. But your family will get to see you from time to time. His family will not.
There are consequences to your actions.
