Palin raises money for GOP in liberal Oregon town
Source: AP

EUGENE, Ore. – Sarah Palin praised Republicans at a fundraising dinner in a liberal-leaning Oregon town for having the boldness to invite her to speak Friday evening.

The former governor of Alaska and vice presidential candidate was the headliner in Eugene for the Lane County Republican Party's Lincoln Day dinner. She spoke as about 150 demonstrators gathered peacefully outside the fundraiser.

Eugene, home to the University of Oregon, is a Democratic stronghold in a blue state, and Lane County registers nearly twice as many Democrats as Republicans. But local GOP officials invited Palin to rally the GOP faithful.

Praising the spirit of the tea party movement, Palin exhorted local Republicans to run for office to take the country back from Democrats.

There's a sucker born every minute.

About 13 hours and 20 minutes worth of them were in that room.

1. As a Eugene resident, they can take my city from me when they pry it from my cold dead hands.
This is a Dem stronghold. The people here are too damned intelligent to be Republicans.

4. You guys in Eugene missed the boat
If you'd REALLY been on the ball, you would have hidden all the bendy straws in advance, and voila, visit cancelled. (Gimme a call next time you need some expert strategery.) :)

3. I guess she likes being a loser.......
...not much chance of inspiring republicans in Oregon!!! I've never been to Oregon but I email a good friend who lives there. And from what I've heard, I'd like to move there someday!

It would be definitely better than Oklahoma!!!

26. I know someone very well in Oregon
He's a very good guy, I like him a lot. Although he did vote for Bush, as soon a Palin came into play he voted for Obama. I really don't think the Palin has the positive impact that the media tends to imply.

5. This is the top story on many new sites - not the good economic news!
If Palin winks, it's the top story on CNN, MSNBC, and Yahoo.

If the housing market starts to recover and unemployment drops, it's buried in tiny text somewhere.

More proof that the right wing media is trying to undermine Obama.

She's a lightweight who only fools the rubes that pay money to listen to someone who dazzles them with her winks and youbetchas.

But, boy, am I sick of the news rushing to smell every Sarah Palin fart and then tell us about it. The Teabaggers are just annoying and tired at this point. I hope the steam runs out soon, but with th elections on the way....

10. bold=stupidity
That these Repugs coughed up $200,000 to hear her speak when they stand zero chance of changing the minds of the majority of the citizens there shows just how really stupid they are. Sarah Palin is the modern equivalent of a snake oil salesman.

12. Eugene is my home town.....
I had a chance to get back there a few times in the last 5 years. There are a lot of very well educated and thoughtful people there...... and a few that are, how shall we say, reality deprived!

18. Thank You! I'm not sure why we haven't come to that conclusion before.
When will we figure out that Palin is a media creation, and the more we talk about her, the bigger her bank account grows. I'm all for a moratorium on this site.

17. I have to wonder...
Would Lincoln have sought to preserve the Union had he known these people would proclaim themselves "The Party of Lincoln" or would he have said "Ah, fuck it!"

23. She doesn't speak for free.
I wonder how much fundraising the GOP had to do to cover the cost of her oft-repeated, hackneyed, rambling, uninspiring, lame-ass, cliched speech?
I could probably get up there and recite it myself and save the Eugene repubs a shitload of money.

"Eugene, do you like your FREEDOM?" "We're kicking it old school with my poor man's teleprompter" (holds up scribbled-upon hand)
I could go on but I'm sure you all know it by heart too.

How this lightweight gets the coverage she does is simply amazing. I've never seen a potential presidential candidate treated this way - it's like she's a celebrity instead of a politician. She's supposedly a viable candidate in the next presidential election and yet she doesn't do interviews, isn't held accountable for her disinformation and uses Facebook as her primary method of expressing her views. If this were a male candidate he would be a laughingstock.
