Denver launches first large-scale citywide bicycle sharing program in U.S.
Source: Green Technology Daily

Denver B-cycle launched this week as the nation’s first large-scale citywide bicycle sharing program. The program launched with approximately 400 red Trek B-cycles at 40 B-stations throughout the City.

Designed to help Denver residents and visitors increase their daily activity, save money and reduce carbon emissions, Denver B-cycle offers the first U.S.public bike sharing system as an alternative to using cars for short commutes and errands.

5. I hate that my first thought is: no way this can work in the US
I know that these sorts of things work in Europe, but it's downright depressing that my own experience with America is that I assume that most bikes will be stolen.

6. Silly..
Do they work in Europe? I might like Europe, but petty theft is generally higher in most of Europe than here. Particularly Italy.

7. I think it's a great idea
If there are a lot of bikes, perhaps theft will be kept at a minimum. If it was free that might help even more.

8. $65 annual fee, although in Denver I can't imagine wanting one in November.
...but a month is $30, so you win with annual.

Then it's free for the first 30 minutes, a buck to an hour, six bucks for two hours and 4 bucks per hour after that to a daily max of $65.

http://denver.bcycle.com/">Looking at the map of stations up so far, if you live and work downtown it's a no-brainer in the summer. :)
