Consumer Confidence Hits Highest Level Since 2008
Source: Bloomberg

Confidence among U.S. consumers increased in April to the highest level since September 2008 as Americans became more upbeat about the labor market.

The Conference Board’s confidence index rose more than forecast, to 57.9 from 52.3 in March, according to the New York- based private research group. The median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News projected a rise to 53.5. A measure of expectations was the highest since 2007.

Pessimism is starting to abate after employers added workers to payrolls in three of the last five months. More job growth will be needed to spark bigger gains in confidence, incomes and spending, which accounts for about 70 percent of the economy.

“Consumers are feeling better about the labor market,” said Nigel Gault, chief U.S. economist at IHS Global Insight in Lexington, Massachusetts, who forecast the index to rise to 57. “If they are to spend more, they need to have jobs.”

1. Unrelated at all to confidence in the economy, in my case, rather the
hope and optimism associated w/upcoming 1st grandchild - babies need stuff even if the economy is crap!

Sometimes it takes something wonderful, like the birth of a baby, to put it all in perspective.

The better the economy does the worse the GOP will do.

14. If it's such wonderful news, why is your Sacred Dow (Cow?) down 214 points?
Edited on Tue Apr-27-10 03:10 PM by TheWatcher
Surely the Power of Propaganda based in a manufactured reality would not dare allow the wipe out of a months worth of artificially manipulated gains in the precious Golden Calf in one single solitary day?

Or maybe reality is finally catching up.

Bubbles Burst.

And sooner or later, the Propaganda is not going to work any longer.

There is nothing fundamental that has changed in the Real Economy.

Except for the fact that the Propaganda has reached dizzying heights of absurdity.

15. LOL.... the Dow has gone up for 8 straight weeks.... one down day and you talk trash?

That's pathetic.

It dropped today because of Greece and Portugal getting their ratings cut.

That's it.

Tomorrow, when the EU announces a more detailed bailout plan for Greece, it will go back up.

Interesting that you've had NOTHING to say about the Dow as it went from 7900 when Obama came into office to 11000 a little more than a year later.

But one bad day... and there you are.

13. Good news really irritates some people, I guess....

You have no problem with multiple posts about something bad that has happened.

Are you that hateful of this country that, like Limbaugh, you are hoping for it to fail?

11. Remember Obama is a socialist
I don't think the unemployed Teabaggers should actually take a new job anywhere as i could have resulted from socialist policy.
