Evergreen student wounded in West Bank protest (Rachel's school)
By The Associated Press

OLYMPIA — A student from The Evergreen State College was wounded in the West Bank during a protest against Israel's construction of a security fence there.

Sam Tsohonis, 26, an art major at the Olympia college, was hit in the leg by a rubber-coated bullet near the village of Anin on Monday. Israeli soldiers wounded five people when they fired rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse protesters trying to cut or push through the fence.

Israelis say the barrier is needed to stop militants from entering Israel to carry out attacks. But Palestinians say the project amounts to a land-grab that cuts them off from agricultural fields, towns and jobs. ---

Rachel Corrie, 23, also an Evergreen student and an International Solidarity Movement volunteer, was crushed to death in March by an Israeli bulldozer while she tried to block it from advancing on a Palestinian home. ---

1. Fence?
Edited on Wed Jul-30-03 06:58 PM by Tinoire

Only a "man of peace" could call this a fence!

Besides, according to the butcher, the wall will bring friendship.

And what's this garbage about Rachel Corrie being crushed to death? According to the latest reports from our allies

1. You can't call someone who "advocates the mass murder of innocents" a peace activist

2. the incident was no murder, but rather an accident. The driver and his commanders were interrogated "with the use of polygraph tests and video evidence" and it was found that they "had no knowledge that was standing in the path of the tractor." An autopsy showed that Corrie's death was caused from falling debris.

God bless people like Sam Tsohonis, Rachel Corrie, Adam Shapiro and the countless other internationals who have gone to Palestine to expose this charade!

3. Interesting
I saw a photo in yesterday's Financial Times of protestors in the West Bank interrupting work on the "security fence." The faces in the photo *plainly* were not Arab. Most of them were carrying back packs, wearing the t-shirts and bandanas of protesters I have seen around here in Seattle. NOW I know why.
