GOP Rep: Deport US Citizens
Source: Mother Jones

Hunter—not to be confused with his belligerent, anti-immigration dad of the same name, who more or less bequeathed the 52nd congressional district in San Diego to his son two years ago—traded the Beltway for a California Tea Party meeting last weekend, presumably so he could rail against the entitled Beltway elite class. The conversation turned to those durn'd dirty illegals, because there's no better way to express your solidarity with a bunch of 18th-century British-born colonists than to rail against immigration. Hunter praised Arizona's new "Papers, please" law to round up undocumented immigrants (or anyone who looks like one), calling it "a fantastic starting point." But at one point, his red-meat stumping got really raw. According to Talking Points Memo, things got weird during the Q-and-A:

"Would you support deportation of natural born American citizens that are the children of illegal aliens?" a man in the audience asked.

"I would have to, yes," Hunter said.

He continued:

"You can look and say, 'You're a mean guy. That's a mean thing to do. That's not a humanitarian thing to do.' We simply cannot afford what we're doing right now."

13. Well, they don't look like me.
If I am understanding this correctly, that is a fine reason to deport them.

In fact, I think that we should save money on weapons and just drop them from planes onto ou enemies, WKRP style. We would save money and they would die doing something for their country. Seems like a win-win if you ask me.

4. You can not make any arguments on what is affordable.
It is simply not possible, after billions in bonuses, after an expensive bail out.

And after years of unpaid spending for wars, while giving tax cuts to the wealthy, nope no argument about what is affordable is possible.

Can't afford? Is he insane?

I heard there is 600 trillion laying around in derivatives, according to CNN. Can't afford? Looks like somebody has lots of money.

5. of course
None of this has anything to do with immigration, let alone "illegal aliens."

People who split hairs and say "I am not against immigrants, just illegal immigrants and I am still a liberal/progressive" are kidding themselves, or us. They are buying into the right wing framing of this issue - that it is about immigration and not racism, and giving aid and comfort and support to racists and to a disgusting racist agenda. It would be like saying "I am not in favor of bombing Afghan citizens, just Afghan terrorists" while full well knowing that the way the government is going after "terrorists" is by bombing places where civilians are certain to be harmed and killed.

9. Yep. Hunter's argument is silly on it's face because those
undocumented people paying into Social Security are probably what is keeping it afloat.

7. Sounds like he's playing to the Birthers there. Think about it....
Q: "Would you support deportation of natural born American citizens that are the children of illegal aliens?"
A: "I would have to, yes..."

So, now all you have to do is prove that Obama's dad was an illegal alien and, ta-da! Deport. Which begs the question...does that mean anyone who is the child of ONE illegal alien gets deported, or do both parents need to be illegal aliens?

10. I hope he understand that this would require a constitutional amendment.
Strictly from the standpoint of international norms, what he is saying isn't strange at all. But the US isn't a "normal" country and I would oppose any move to change the "born here/automatic citizenship" clause.

12. ... and that's what this has been about for a lot of people for a long time
They think that only certain (white) people are entitled to be Americans, and that others aren't, despite what the constitution says.

15. Relax, unless there is a change made to the constitution to allow for this then
this has as much chance as happening as an unprotected snowball does surviving outside all summer long in 100+ degree weather.

with a fair amount of success, this turnabout in the GOP is quite astonishing.

18. Babies born here are entitled to be President, remember?
If a baby is born here, this is his or her native land. You don't deport anyone from his or her native land unless he or she has done something very wrong. Babies are not "evildoers," to quote one of the fool's buzzwords.
