Continental, United expected to merge
Source: MSNBC

After scuttling their talks two years ago, Continental Airlines and United Airlines are expected to announce a merger Monday, according to the Wall Street Journal.

If completed, the deal would create the world's largest airline by traffic.

...snip...

The United board will meet Friday and Continental’s will meet Friday and Sunday to discuss the deal, sources told the Journal.

Continental has agreed in theory that the new airline would be based in Chicago, home of United, and retain the United brand, the newspaper said on its Web site.

While United is certainly better known and has a longer history, I think Continental may have a better reputation for service.

2. I've been amazingly impressed with Continental lately..
I fly frequently, and you wouldn't believe how great they have been. United, however, sucks like the rest of them. (well, southwest is ok, and the major european airlines are much better than the American ones as well).

6. Agreed
Continental really stepped up. I remember taking in international flight Dec/Jan of last year, and it was pretty bad, I flew with them in last April, and they were amazing.

7. I fly Continental a lot, too
but they do some codeshares with Alaska Airlines, especially on flights to the Pacific NW, and I like them a bit better. It's OK with me to pay for a decent tasting fast-food meal on Alaska, than to chow down that 'free' mystery meat sandwich on Continental!

4. Yup...should be called Continental
United unfortunately has stigma now...Continental however has gotten
rave reviews for the last several years.

Bets? Odds? How long will it take old UAL management to drive the whole
thing into the crapper.
