Activist says Yankee tritium source in doubt
Source: Rutland Herald

BRATTLEBORO – A former nuclear insider now working for a nuclear watchdog group said Thursday he wasn't sure Entergy Nuclear had found all the sources of the radioactive tritium leak at the Vermont Yankee plant.

Paul Blanch of West Hartford, Conn., who recently joined the litigation team at the New England Coalition, said a review of recent filings by Entergy Nuclear about the radioactive tritium leak at Vermont Yankee showed obvious mistakes and miscalculations.

Blanch said by his research he had determined that Vermont Yankee releases 4 trillion picocuries of tritium into the atmosphere every year, most of it through its stack. While the stack is monitored, he said, it monitors for high-level radioactivity.

The tour had drawn controversy because of a request by a Massachusetts documentary filmmaker to attend the tour. Entergy originally said he couldn't bring a camera, but then it relented on Wednesday, but imposed strict new conditions on all media regarding the use of cameras, including reviewing any shots taken by news organizations, with the right to delete any of them they view as compromising the security of the plant. The Herald refused to accept those new guidelines and didn't send a photographer on the tour.

2. So that's 4 Curies a year, right?
Four trillion pico-Curies is 4 Curies.
