German hotel dismisses Laura Bush's poisoning claim as 'publicity stunt'
Source: ANI

A German hotel has slammed former US First Lady Laura Bush's claim of possible poisoning, stating its a publicity stunt to draw attention to her memoirs.

George W. Bush's wife hints in her upcoming autobiography 'Spoken from the Heart,' that she, her husband and staff members may have been poisoned during their stay in Hotel Heiligendamm in northern Germany, in 2007.

...

Laura writes that the president had fallen ill, leading the Secret Service to speculate a case of possible poisoning. However, doctors had concluded that they had all contracted a virus.

...

However, Christian Ploeger, a spokesman for the Fundus Group, which owns the hotel, said there was no evidence of someone trying to poison the premier.

"We see absolutely no evidence to support (these allegations) at all. The food was checked by security staff," the Telegraph quoted him as saying.e added: "I suspect that this may be just to try and sell more copies of the book."

2. I'm not going to give this one to them. The secret service would not share what it knows with the
hotel. No chance.

Laura Bush may have been told by the Secret Service that it may have been poisoned food. She probably believes that - I mean they all got sick.

This article and not liking her do not erase that an event happened and this may be what she believes about it. They also don't substantiate whether the Bushes were poisoned or not. I think that's unlikely but who knows. He was a severely unpopular president world wide.

8. The reason I'm not going to make a judgement is because I don't have a problem
accepting that people would poison them if they got a chance.

20. A virus would infect them if it got a chance, too.
Edited on Fri Apr-30-10 03:21 PM by greyl
Evidence points to virus.

Also, someone might sensationalize a little to help market a book release if given a chance, correct?

9. And what do doctors know?
"..doctors had concluded that they had all contracted a virus".

Perhaps Laura has confused food poisoning as in keeping the potato salald out too long with actual poisoning. If someone wanted the Bush entourage dead and was close enough to poison their food, they'd no longer be with us. Though, I suppose there is the possibility that Condi was the culprit and only intended to talk Laura out.

Pickles is just being dramatic and probably has some sort of delusion that an accusation of poisoning will somehow make George-boy more sympathetic.

3. The idiot son can't even eat a pretzel without hurting himself.
Laura could never come out of her trance long enough to actually write her memoirs anyway. Just made up crapola to sell books and try to get people to feel sorry for them.

Go to Hell along with your 1/4 witted husband Laura. Take some more drugs and plaster that smile back on your face.

4. She's trying to do more than sell books.
She's trying to make everyone feel sorry for her husband, to turn on those who think he should be brought to justice for war crimes and mass murder, etc. It's her saying "Those bad meanies even got my husband poisoned." She's not blaming Germany. She's blaming you and me.

I used to feel some sympathy for her. She always seemed to be the typical battered wife, and given Bush's record of cruelty, violence (he tried to beat up his father, even), and alcoholism, I figured she was at least emotionally battered. But with delusional comments like this--and I don't believe she thinks they were poisoned--she sinks to almost his level in my book.

6. What I want to know is why Laura was suspicious of poisoning in the first place...
she must've been acutely aware, and fearful - paranoid, about the disdain for her husband.

I think she said many times that she was acutely aware of her husband's...lack of popularity.

22. Yes, I thought so as well.
If the Dr concluded it was a virus, then why publicly speculate that it was poisoning? Not very classy at all.

10. and why put this in her book?
Tacky to say the least. If they were poisoned they would all be dead. She really has quite an ego. What happens in Germany stays in Germany Ms Bush.

11. Because it's easier to get forgiveness after you made your money and sold
a few dozen books.

never ever believe anyone who is a bush, married to a bush or has close connections to a bush.

They all lie for advancement of one kind or another.

They are incapable of telling the truth even when it doesn't matter.

The underlying message being the Bushes were just victims, don't you see?

Thanks for the thread, sabra.
