Shadowy outside group spending $1.5 million to influence Arkansas Dem primary
Source: Washington Post, the Plum Line

It's worth stepping back and marveling at what's happening in Arkansas. A shadowy third-party group that's said to be backed by business interests -- nobody knows for sure -- is spending roughly $1.5 million to defeat Blanche Lincoln's primary foe, Bill Halter.

And they don't have to reveal where any of that cash came from. That's not a shocker, of course, to those who follow this stuff very closely. But it's extraordinary nonetheless.

6. Tinfoil Conspiracy Nonsense.
There's no such thing as "shadowy" groups. That's what I've learned from DU and mainstream political discourse.

And there are no "conspiracies" -- Watergate, Iran-Contra, BCCI, Enron, Tyco, Gulf of Tonkin, it's all nonsense.

7. And many DUers don't like organized labor

I'm a proud AFSCME member. There was the SEIU earlier today. From WIN last month:

A number of incumbent Democrats up for reelection this fall have begun feeling the ire of labor unions. Jesse Russell reports on the Senate race in Arkansas.

The American Federation of State County and Municipal employees is the most recent union to enter the Arkansas Democratic Primary fight for the Senate. Incumbent Senator Blanche Lincoln is facing Lt. Governor Bill Halter in an effort to hold onto her seat and she is facing an uphill battle as unions, upset with what many have expressed as her anti-union agenda, start to line up behind Halter. The most recent misstep by Lincoln was when her campaign launched a telephone survey asking constituents about her opponent taking money from labor unions. Lincoln herself has raised more than $576,000 from labor unions during the lifetime of her political career. AFSCME launched a television commercial this week saying the incumbent has become part of the problem in Washington, DC. The video shows movers packing up Lincoln’s DC office.

10. Sorry to hear that.
I'm sure you would know - I just look at the news here, mostly. It's crazy that people would think it's OK for corporations to organize (by definition) but not workers.

12. I'm a federal worker and favor "union neutrality". There should be
be strong laws protecting anyone's right to join a union and provisions that protects anyone's right to decline joining a union. Making your freedom (or not) of associating with others in order to retain your job make a mockery of the concept.
