(WP) Poll: 31% of Republicans and tea partyers doubt Obama's citizenship
Source: WP

The Washington Post/ABC News poll includes another bite at the birther apple, asking whether Americans have "suspicions" or "solid evidence." Among all Americans, 68 percent say Obama was definitely born in the United states, while 14 percent speculate about another country and the rest don't know; asked whether it was "your best guess that Obama was born in the United States," the "yes" number rises to 77 percent.

So who are the "birthers"? Mostly Republicans and "very" conservative voters.

1. The 14% that are certain Obama was born in another country, I 'd
say it's a safe bet they will hold on to their STUPID AWARD indefinitely.

4. Neanderthals were the victims of the homo sapiens, they were literally hunted to extintion
They also had slightly bigger bigger brains, indicating the possibility of increased intellectual capacity.

25. con brain
It's long been my opinion that the conservative brain and mindset is best summarized by two epigrams.(1.) If humans had been meant to fly they'd have been given wings. and (2.) get a horse.
Anything that causes them to have to try to deal with new, original ideas or concepts causes brain lock and a conditioned response of automatic opposition/ refusal/denial.This might be especially true when dealing with the enormous spectrum of human behaviors. It's even more problematic when combined with their authoritarian tendencies.

9. Which means 69% do not. I wonder what the numbers are for paraniod
people with delusions of grandeur...maybe 15%? So possibly half of the RWers have something diagnosable...

27. The figure I found online is this: 22.1% of US adults 18 and over
have a diagnosable mental illness. Many MH professionals seem to corealate this with religion - I have found several sites talking about religious components of mania and I have little doubt that many of the serious RWers have real problems.
Back in the 1950's, the extreme right-including the Birchers-had campaigns against what was then called "mental hygene" and many still fight against any type of mental health "intrusions" into their personal lives, labeling it as ....
SOCIALISM!!!!

26. That's actually not true.
But liberals have a whole other set of code words and rationales for it.

It really pisses me off when we play pure-as-the-driven-snow. We aren't. But at least we fight to be better. We know enough to be ashamed of it.

12. Where are the details of the polled group?
I've got a LOT of questions about this so-called poll.

"Among all Americans, 68 percent say Obama was..."

All Americans? They polled ALL Americans? Don't think so...

I don't see the number polled, the details by race, creed, religion, etc.

At least AP-GFK polls, show all the info at the bottom of their "right leaning" polls.

...as said, The Devil is in the Details.

14. Too stupid to be real americans! Take away their citizenship!
Conservatives are obviously too stupid to be human. They must be in league with the devil, that subversive terrorist from the other realm. Make them take a an intelligence test before they can vote, or better yet, take away their citizenship as they are so obviously un-american not to support the duly elected president.

15. Saw a birther yesterday
I was pulling out of CVS parking lot in very repug-leaning Chesterfield county, Virginia - suburban Richmond - when I saw a guy getting into a very new and shiny Range Rover. It had two bumper stickers: "Palin 2012" and "Where's The Birth Certificate?"

Obviously, the microcephalic teabagger can advertise his intelligence on his car if he wants, but I remember during the Bush administration that Chesterfield county wasn't a safe place for cars that displayed any protest or non-support of Bush . My car got keyed before I removed my Gore sticker and my daughter's clunker got sharpied on her bumperstickers which were far more pointed than my innocuous one.

:dunce:

21. One thing that irks me about the media coverage of this...
...is that, in the msnbc.com version of this story here they describe "..how widespread the misunderstanding of his birthplace is...".

Misunderstanding? Really? As if this can be attributed to some ordinary confusion that happens from time to time?

This is no "misunderstanding". This is a willful belief stemming from an organized, persistent, virulent misinformation campaign that is extremely difficult to counter.

I hate the way the media soft-shoes this as merely some sort of naturally occurring confusion when it's actually an artifact of a destructive force.
