KBR to Get No-Bid Army Work as U.S. Alleges Kickbacks
Source: Bloomberg

KBR Inc. was selected for a no-bid contract worth as much as $568 million through 2011 for military support services in Iraq, the Army said.

The Army announced its decision yesterday only hours after the Justice Department said it will pursue a lawsuit accusing the Houston-based company of taking kickbacks from two subcontractors on Iraq-related work. The Army also awarded the work to KBR over objections from members of Congress, who have pushed the Pentagon to seek bids for further logistics contracts.

What the fuck? I thought we were done with this kind of rip-off. Dick Cheney lives, the evil bastard.

13. Not any more
Halliburton spun off KBR back in 2007. It is now it's own seperate company.

16. The first thing that Obama should have done was to stop contracting
government work to KBR/Halliburton and other similar contractors. That would be the best way to bring our budget deficits under control.

20. I don't blame Obama.
I blame the command that awarded the contract. And I think I may know which command it is. I used to work for them, and when it came to contracts, they broke every regulation in the book.

25. Did the CIC (or anyone from the WH) say:
(A) No more no bid contracts over $X without an okay from the WH

or

(B) No more contracts over $X with Halliburtion without an okay from the WH

or

(C) No more no bid contracts over $X with Halliburton without an okay from the WH?

If not, I do blame the CIC. Why wouldn't I? It's not as though this was ever a low profile issue, or as though scandal after scandal has not occurred, both before and after Obama took office.

24. How long do you suppose it takes to stop giving no-bid contracts to Halliburton?
Edited on Sun May-09-10 08:31 AM by No Elephants
Or any contractor that has proven to overcharge and also to do shoddy work?

How long would it take you not to give new work on your home to a contractor whose work had electrocuted your kids?

And that's not even counting the kickback allegations.

He's been in office 16 months.

Only 28 posts here and you're "trashing" DUers who criticize the President? Sick of us already, are you? LOL

Well, sock it to us, then!

26. Meet The New Boss -- The Same as the Old Boss
This kind of crap has been going on since LBJ. I honestly had hoped that we would finally get a principled man in the WH with Obama, but it looks like his principles are to continue the failures of Bush/Cheney. Why is Gitmo still open? This guy is becoming a colossal failure in my book. I sure hope people aren't giving him blind loyalty just because he has a "D" after his name. That's the same kind of thing that the repugs do.

4. They should be investigated.
Instead they are being rewarded with lucrative contracts. Is this a great country or what? The Bush/Cheney legacy!

6. Oh, they surely willingly aided it that much true but this kind of stuff goes deeper than that even.
Some of the personal who make these decisions are looking towards working for those companies after they retire from public service so they have a vested interest in greasing the palms of companies like KBR.

17. They have been investigated. And found to have overbilled and cheated.
They need to be sent to Coventry. No more contracts should be given to them.

10. Just about to forward article to my Senator (McCaskill) when i read-
"Senate Objections

KBR’s no-bid work order drew criticism from two U.S. senators even before it was announced.

Senator Claire McCaskill, the Missouri Democrat who heads a subcommittee that oversees military contracting, and the panel’s ranking Republican, Susan Collins of Maine, wrote Defense Secretary Robert Gates on April 30 urging the Army against “continued reliance” on KBR in light of the Justice Department’s April lawsuit.

“The Army has a big burden to demonstrate that a decision to not compete is in the best interest of the military and American taxpayers,” McCaskill said in a statement last night. “We will hold their feet to the fire and continue to demand accountability on this decision.”

SO glad she's my Senator!

15. These kinds of contracts are the main reason for our out-of-bounds budget deficits.
Stop privatization. The government should do its own work and hire its own people to do it.

I'd like to see a comparison of the pay scales of the top guys at Halliburton and the top guys in the U.S. government. That would explain our entire budget deficit and its growth since 1980.

I simply quit keeping track of all the members of this administration that came directly from pres cheney/bush administration. First it was depressing, then it became downright frightening!
