Iran says families of detained US hikers may visit them

Relatives of three US hikers being held in Iran for entering the country illegally will be allowed to see them in prison, Tehran has said.

Iran's foreign minister said on state TV that the government had ordered its UN mission in New York to issue visas.

Manouchehr Mottaki made the decision on humanitarian grounds, the state broadcaster reported.

1. What the hell were those hikers thinking??
Don't get me wrong: I feel bad for their families, etc...and I dread thinking about prison conditions in Iran, but
BUT! Why in the name of sanity did they go hiking on the border between Iran and Iraq? Just having fun? There are a zillion square miles of mountains to climb just over THERE! They're called called the Himalayas.
Death wish perhaps?
