**Update** Delaware Atty. General Beau Biden hospitalized
Source: ABC News

NEWARK, Del. - May 11, 2010 (WPVI) -- Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, son of Vice President Joe Biden, was being treated at a Delaware hospital, the White House said Tuesday, though it did not provide information about what might be wrong.

Action News has learned Beau Biden was showing signs of a possible stroke and was then rushed to the hospital from his home.

A source close to the family tells ABC News that Beau had some discomfort and a headache.

Beau Biden was awake and alert and communicating with his parents and wife, who were with him at Christiana Hospital in Newark.

Jason Miller, a spokesman for Beau Biden, said he was admitted to the hospital Tuesday morning.

2. Remember Joe Biden had a brain tumor that caused similar
problems.

4. He had two -- aneurisms, actually. What finally got him to the doctor were the
headaches. I'm so hoping that's not the case with Beau. But it sounds as though he sought help right away, and we know he's getting good care, so that's a plus.

3. We've been watching this for a while now -- but no real news has come out.
The news outlets are just adding filler, and at this point I think we won't get any more until Joe or Beau's family makes a statement (unless somebody leaks). I think all we really know is that he had a headache and maybe because of Joe's history with brain aneurisms they are being extra cautious. But that's just my speculation. By saying he has a 'headache' they're not telling us much, but they never give us a play by play. We'll just have to wait until we get more 'news' than "there are several government SUVs at the entrance to the hospital" and "the only helicopter on the roof belongs to the hospital." :)

Hopefully it's nothing that can't be treated. It always sends a chill through a person when it involves the brain though.

Here's hoping that if it is something in the brain, then it's as minor as something can be when dealing with that part of the body.

8. Christiana is a great hospital, plus I'm sure he's getting the best of care there.
My friend is an ER nurse there on this shift. Happy hour might be interesting tonight.

I hope and pray everything is OK. People are making some nasty comments on DelawareOnline, so if anyone wants to go give them a piece of their mind, feel free. I've flagged some of the freeper crap as abusive, but I have to head out for a meeting now.

10. Yes..
Christiana is a fine hospital. They took very good care of my father in law when he was near death, thankfully he's better now.

I've read some of the comments posted on DelawareOnline..WTF?!? Very nasty stuff.

9. Best wishes to Beau Biden!!!
This is the only site I found that states what he may have. It says that he may have suffered a stroke. I hope not, he's a young man.

12. Does the overwhelming lack of specifics on this bode ill or well?
It's just kind of strange that this has been going on all day with no word from anybody.

Sending good vibes to the Bidens.

14. I don't know.
He may have been having certain symptoms, but they don't want to say anything until they can confirm what is afflicting him. I hope that it's something minor.

17. The lack of specifics troubles me
Edited on Tue May-11-10 02:43 PM by MissDeeds
It's probably for privacy concerns, or not wanting to float something out there until until they have a diagnosis. Still, people are going to wonder and draw their own conclusions.

I hope it's something minor. The Biden family has suffered enough.

22. Biden's son appears to have had a mild stroke
Source: USA Today

Vice President Joe Biden's son Beau appears to have had a "mild stroke," but is in stable condition and should make a full recovery, the White House just announced.

Here is a statement from Dr. Timothy Gardner, Medical Director of the Center for Heart and Vascular Surgery at Christiana Care Health System in Delaware:

"Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden was admitted this morning to Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware after having what we believe to be a mild stroke. He is in good spirits and talking with his family at the hospital. He is fully alert, in stable condition and has full motor and speech skills. We expect him to make a complete recovery."

27. I had one not that long ago and I made a full recovery.
Mine were light headedness, dizziness and eventually slightly slurred speech. That's when I called the doctor. We caught it just in time. If I had let it go I would have had a full blown stroke and irreversible brain damage.

28. Thank you for that info.
It is invaluable to hear first-hand experiences of symptoms.
I have had light-headiness and once I was so dizzy, I had to lie down.
But I never had the third - slurred speech.

30. No problem. The Wizard is your friend too. LOL
I had that about a year or two ago. I'm 78 now. I also forgot one. I was also having some left right disassociation. It kind of felt like my body was divided right down the middle. But it only caused me problems with steps. I had to get the left right movement thing going before I could start going up or down the steps. I was starting to have problems with left right coordination. That and the slightly slurred speech was just setting off bells and whistles.

If your light headedness and dizziness is frequent or persistent. See your doctor. If it's not an early warning on a possible stroke. It's blood pressure. You should be concerned with both even if you're not 78.

32. Thank you Wizard friend.
The dizziness happened a long time ago. I've changed a lot of lifestyle elements since then.
(I think it may have been because I cleaned the carpets with a chemical cleaner.
When I lay down on the bed, the ceiling was spinning for a while.
I have since ripped out all my carpets, and replaced them with tiles.)

The light-headedness only happens if I have not had enough sleep.

But, it is time to do a self-check now and again.

Nice going, 78. Hope you have many more!

It is surprising that even folks who know CPR are unaware of stroke symptoms.

Call 911 (that 'socialist' service) and get help fast!

Wishing Beau a full recovery...
