San Jose officials to vote on Arizona boycott
Source: San Jose Mercury News

The San Jose City Council will vote next month on whether to join other cities and counties in boycotting Arizona over that state's controversial illegal-immigration law, the toughest in the nation.

A council committee led by Mayor Chuck Reed on Wednesday scheduled a June 8 vote by the full council. They will debate a proposal by four council members to denounce the Arizona law and consider restricting city travel and contracts there.

The bill signed last month requires state and local police to verify immigration status "where reasonable suspicion exists that the person is an alien who is unlawfully present in the United States."

Backers say the law merely allows state officials to enforce federal laws already on the books, while critics say it invites racial profiling and will discourage immigrants from cooperating with authorities.

Well, San Jose joins fellow California cities San Francisco and Los Angeles as well as Washington, DC to say NO to SB1070!

Already, defenders of SB1070 have already complained and urged people to vote out whoever proposed this resolution. Shows the ignorance of the mainstream media's target audience.

1. I dunno
San Jose has a huge community of Asians who by tradition vote GOP no matter what.

They feel that the GOP is better at keeping America more safer, what a piece of crap!

2. Arizona is heading for financial disaster....
Between boycotters and people who just plain don't want to go to the kidnapping capital of the US, tourism in Arizona is dead.

When the jobs dry up, due to a lack of tourism, maybe they'll forget about this bill. As for that whole kidnap capital thing, I'm not sure there's much hope on that one.

and the way it looks- Arizona's become not such a good investment.

This quite aside from any ethics and morality that might be worked into the equation.
