Suspicious vehicle spotted in NYC's Union Square
Source: Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) -- New York City police have cleared a few blocks of Manhattan while investigating a suspicious car near Union Square. At least one building has been evacuated.

The car was spotted Thursday night not far from busy Union Square subway station, where several lines connect. Police say two gas cans were seen in the back of the car.

The bomb squad and Emergency Service Unit were investigating. Union Square, near Greenwich Village, New York University and the landmark Flatiron building, sits along a major city thoroughfare.

2. Gawd! Can't the authorities handle these situations without NATIONAL fear-mongering by
the whores in the M$M?!?

Every time we have a suspicious package, the spring butt media salivates for BLOOD-LUST. :puke:

4. Where's your sense of perspective?
That drink cooler that they found last week might resulted in explosive thirst-quenching for up to three people.

7. So true.
Seriously though, if you wish to NOT encourage these types of low budget copy-cat type of attacks, you keep these events as low key as possible. Yes, clear the area and let everyone who could be effected know to stay away until either the "all clear" or "disarmed."

However, I'm getting the distinct impression that the more FEAR, the BETTER the M$M and government authorities view the conduct of operations that should not be broadcasted to the public.

The above policy of announcing every little league threat is not conducive to promoting our civil liberties. The more FEAR that's spread, the more the government can justify clamping down on individual rights. It also encourages terrorist wannabes to try any and all means to glean attention. It's not a wise policy within a "free and open society."

When the government is functioning well in a democratic republic, the populace in general is not immediately informed of all threats.

I don't know whether I'm more depressed or disgusted by these news "events."

11. The media should learn not to be so overanalytical of this trivial bullcrap.
I mean c'mon. If you get your news solely off the morning shows, there's more time spent analysing petty celebrity gossip like Tiger Woods's infidelity than events that really affect our lives. Think about that. And now we have the media trying to have it both ways with these harmless incidents in NYC: "Suspicious car found...uhh, move along everyone, nothing to see here!"

10. Gas cans were for LAWN MOWING
From HuffPo

Excerpt:

NYPD investigators located the owner of the 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, which was parked in front of the Con Edison utility building around 10 p.m. He told police he had the gas cans in his car because he mows lawns for his family. He parked the car in the area because he was attending a concert nearby, police said.

So, will NYC pay to have his car windows replaced?

13. If people are going to freak out over every "suspicious" car like this
they are in for a world of trouble. Who will take a real event seriously?
