Obama: GOP wants keys back after driving US ‘into the ditch’

By Agence France-Presse
Friday, May 14th, 2010 -- 10:21 am

President Barack Obama is ripping into his Republican opponents, accusing them of refusing to help rebuild America after having "created the mess" and driving the economy "into the ditch."

Obama told a Democratic fundraising event in New York late Thursday that despite one of the busiest and most accomplished legislative sessions in recent memory, he witnessed "our friends on the other side of the aisle fall all over themselves to argue otherwise."

"You would have thought at a time of historic crisis that Republican leaders would have been more willing to help us find a way out of this mess -- particularly since they created the mess," Obama said.

"We all have a stake in cleaning it up. We're not Democrats or Republicans first -- we're Americans first."

6. Allowing the GOP to regain control of the government....
...is like giving the keys to a drunk driver. Not just that, but it's also like giving another drink to someone who'se already fallen-down drunk.

9. If people are going to be even remotely honest with themselves, they're going to have to own up
to the fact that the steering wheel doesn't just have Republican fingerprints on it. Pretending that Democrats played no part in this disaster doesn't do anyone any good, and isn't going to help prevent it from happening again in the future. The only thing I can't stand even more than a Republican is a blinders-wearing hypocrite.

11. A pro wrestler said almost the same thing as Obama
and that was about a year ago. It was posted a few times on DU, but I forgot the guy's name. I think he's retired & has a radio show now. Jim Cornet or something like that?

His quote was something about how Republicans drove the economy into a ditch and were now bitching about the price of the tow truck.

Anybody have a link to the DU post?
