Biden: Democratic Party backs Sen. Specter in Pa.
Source: AP

PHILADELPHIA — Vice President Joe Biden on Friday defended U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter's Democratic credentials against a primary rival's criticism that the former Republican only switched parties to save his job.

"Arlen is the Democratic candidate," Biden told KDKA radio in Pittsburgh. "Now I grant it, there's a primary, but this is the guy the Democratic Party got behind early on."

Specter is in a close race in the Democratic primary Tuesday with two-term U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak, who has run an ad questioning whether Specter is a real Democrat. The commercial shows Republican-turned-Democrat Specter with former President George W. Bush and Sarah Palin. The tag line of the ad says, "Arlen Specter switched parties to save one job — his — not yours."

Specter switched his party affiliation last year, saying the Republicans had moved too far right politically. President Barack Obama and Biden promised to help Specter secure a sixth term; both have been part of ads and automated calls in the state.

What value are symbolic Democrats if they don't even enable real health care reform, for example, to be passed?

Doesn't matter how much of a jackass you are in U.S. politics - you get to live on and get paid for it.

4. I swear the stupidity of these people amaze me
How the Hell do you get such powerful positions in government being this retarded?

As soon as Specter is re-elected, he'll dump the Democrats and start sucking up to the GOP to see what they will give him to vote their way.

15. It's thanks for him switching to the Democrats more broadly.
Though health care reform is an important part of that, of course. (Sestak also supported it.)

2012. Hey, my state Dems (MI) just shitcanned a pro-choice candidate to replace Stupecker, in favor of an anti-choice candidate.

The folks in DC have no business telling us who the candidate is, before the primary has been held.

40. Really, the voters get to decide?
Because when Rahm recruited Sestak to run for Congress in PA-7, they pushed Bryan Lentz (the REAL progressive) out of the race so Sestak could run unopposed.

I guess Joe only has a problem with party bosses when they don't back Joe Sestak.

20. Sorry, Joe, but it's up to the Democratic voters of Pennsylvania
to decide who the candidate will be. I'm hoping it'll be Sestak. Specter still doesn't know which team he's batting for. He was still rooting for the Republican running against Franken, after he allegedly became a Democrat.

21. Biden backs Palin on anti equality as well
Shouted out during the debates how much he and Obama agree with her that discrimination is their right as Christians or some bullshit. Once a person admits to sharing a bigotry with Palin with great pride, their words are to me those of a person who agrees with Palin. And not a thing more than that.

36. good point... sadly. I remember that. anti-equality is horrible, and I always say,
how sad that the president, who never would have been given a real chance to run for president 40 years ago doesn't see the inappropriateness of people to restrict rights based on their 'religion'. That is what's 'un-Christian' here, not GLBT people!

22. Specter was PROMISED support by the Democratic Party, Ed Rendell,
Edited on Fri May-14-10 03:42 PM by old mark
Obama, Biden and Harry Reid, who told Specter he would RETAIN his seniority and all his committee positions and get cash and help to get re elected.
Arlen has been charmed by big money politics and big connections since he served as legal council to the Warren Commission before his true political carreer began. He is 80 years old and it is time he went home.

I do not like or trust Sestak much, but I find I like Specter even less now and he should be gone from office.

Biden, who never saw a credit card company he didn't like and gave them the present bankruptcy bill has now teamed with a turncoat. Goes with Kerry and his Lieberman, Kissinger, and Baker.

What is the world thinking.
