Dems celebrate win in Pa. special election (Mark Critz wins Rep. Murtha's seat)

Source: MSNBC

PHILADELPHIA - Democrats will retain control of the seat held for decades by the late Pennsylvania Rep. John Murtha after winning a special election to fill the final months of his term. Both parties viewed the contest as a test for the fall.

With 70 percent of precincts reporting Tuesday, Murtha aide Mark Critz had 53 percent of the vote compared with nearly 45 percent for businessman Tim Burns.

Critz and Burns will have a rematch in the November general election after also winning their parties' nominations in the Pennsylvania primary.

they have had absolutely nothing. Voters may be fickle, but they are not stupid...:D

41. Don't get overly-confident
It's great that we won PA-12, but overall we have not done well in recent elections...we lost Ted Kennedy's seat in Mass., plus the governorships in VA & NJ. Republican voters are EXTREMELY motivated this year and we Democrats need to generate the same enthusiasm we had two years ago to get our folks out to vote in November. The last thing we need is to allow the country to be taken over by the tea-baggers.

8. Will there be another election in November then for the seat?
Or, is this good for the two years now? ...It seems like a lot of money needing to be spent again for a November seat...

the incumbent advantage.

23. Special elections only to complete the unexpired term.
We will have a special election around late July here in Indiana because of a Republican having an affair with a staffer. Haven't had the seat in the D column since 1994. And this is our best opportunity to make it happen.

That means an election late July/early August and then another in November. BUT, Wisconsin has their primaries in September.

loved PA and his district, I'm glad that they remembered.

Also, it's a good night for Dems although you wouldn't know it by the so called Liberal media - LOL

39. Not enough to get that Republicans are not the answer. You have to get that Democrats ARE the answer
Or, you stay home, or go third Party.

Democrat Murtha always did well by the people of that district. Does not surprise me that they went for another Democrat.

33. This is a big deal. This is the part of Pa that McCain carried.
Murtha's old seat. There had been concern that the GOP just
might win it. Mark Critz won it BIG.

Democrat V a Republican. The only race between the two
parties and the Democrat won.
