Campbell Brown Leaving CNN Due to Poor Ratings
Source: The Huffington Post

Campbell Brown is leaving CNN, where she hosts the ratings-challenged 8PM program bearing her name.

"Of course I pay attention to ratings," Brown said in a statement. "And simply put, the ratings for my program are not where I would like them to be. It is largely for this reason that I am stepping down as anchor of CNN's 'Campbell Brown.'"

"To be clear: this is my decision, and one that I have been thinking about for some time," she continued. "As for why, I could have said, that I am stepping down to spend more time with my children (which I truly want to do). Or that I am leaving to pursue other opportunities (which I also truly want to do). But I have never had much tolerance for others' spin, so I can't imagine trying to stomach my own. The simple fact is that not enough people want to watch my program, and I owe it to myself and to CNN to get out of the way so that CNN can try something else. CNN will have to figure out what that is."

"Today is about Campbell," CNN/US President Jon Klein said in a separate statement. "We want to wish her well as she begins the next phase of her life. We respect her decision to leave. We will announce our programming plans in the coming weeks."

Praise the Lord!

Apparently, Eliot Spitzer may be taking her slot. If so, good! Better the genuine article!

6. Me too! So sick of people "wanting to spend time with their families" and
"exploring exciting opportunities" when in reality if the show was a big hit they would still be there.

11. And exactly how would she hide low ratings? Every story about her exit would mention them.
"As for why, I could have said, that I am stepping down to spend more time with my children (which I truly want to do). Or that I am leaving to pursue other opportunities (which I also truly want to do). But I have never had much tolerance for others' spin, so I can't imagine trying to stomach my own."

She was trying to spin while saying she would not be able to stomach her own spinning.

21. Maybe her husband taught her all of his tricks for hiding things.
He and Bremer probably learned a lot about hiding things and keeping secrets, at least when it comes to large amounts of money.

Now where did we put all of that money?.......Oh well, people will forget about it after we leave Iraq.

Great family values that their children are picking up I suppose.

12. I thought sleeping with a producer gave you job security. Are you implying she's bad in bed?
Isn't she married with two very young children? Whose impeccable word are you taking for this alleged affair before helping spread a hurtful rumor like that?

16. CNN is not in a good position here...
OK, O' Liely has the ratings and the "right" flank covered, Keith has the ratings and the "left" flank covered, and Nancy Grace has the victim/crime flank covered. So as I see it, it doesn't matter who you put in that slot, nobody is going to watch unless it's compelling TV, and that is hard to do at 8PM. "Hard" news, we know what happened. "Storytelling", not late enough for that, Real Investigative Journalism, won't happen due to corporate ownership.

Possible replacements inside CNN: Rick Sanchez, John Roberts, Roland Martin, Don Lemon, or John King gets moved up from 7P.
Possible replacements outside CNN: David Schuster (MSNBC), Shepperd Smith (FNC), Arron Brown (U of Az). If CBS/CNN news merger happens, Lara Logan and Katie Couric become possibilities.

17. This is a confirmation of Keith's power.
IMHO, I don't want any competition to Keith. But if I had to program for CNN, either put Don Lemon there (although he'd have to create some sort of programming format), or put Shuster there (which may be what happens given that pilot that he shot), -or- bring back Crossfire - maybe have Shuster and Lemon vs some coherent (if they can find any...LOL) rethuglican commentators.

20. All CNN needed to do was
strive for objectivity. Instead they chased sensationalism and tried to siphon off some RW Faux viewers by going partisan.

She should have had a disclaimer showing the entire time she was on air.

Actually, Andrea Mitchell should do the same thing.

While going up against Olbermann and O'Reilly certainly isn't a picnic, I've never heard of anyone leaving because she didn't like her ratings. She jumped before she was pushed!
