Shell promises Arctic drilling will be safe
Source: CBC News

Shell Oil Co. will take additional steps to ensure the safety of exploratory drilling it plans in the Arctic this summer off a coast shared with Yukon and the Northwest Territories, the company has told regulators.

President Marvin Odum outlined nine additional measures from its original proposal, in a letter to federal regulators dated May 14.

Critics say the company still isn't equipped to clean up a spill in the remote waters off Alaska's northern coast, and drilling should be delayed.

Odum outlined Shell's measures in a letter dated Friday to Minerals Management Service director Elizabeth Birnbaum.

The Dems should be running Palin's "drill, baby drill" video over and over again.

10. President Obama should have a State of the Union Address
as soon as possible and state.....

"My fellow Americans we have a problem that we have let go on too long. We have a potential ecological disaster happening in the Gulf of Mexico at this very moment and no one seems to know how to stop it. This was caused by corporate greed, lack of government oversight, greed of elected politicians, and our need to live a life of comfort.

It is tme to ask the hard questions and get truthful answers, no one is immune from this inquiry. To avoid anything like this happening again I have just signed an Executive Order stateing that there will be no more drilling within the confines of the United states of America until the people of the United States are satisfied that they are protected.

Good Night and be safe. Thank you."

14. It Is
Not going to be in the US.

It will be in Canadian waters. He should pick up the phone and tell Canada that they will have to pay the bills for any damage to US interests!

18. Article says off the coast of Alaska that it shares
with Canada. If not in US waters why would they need to send a letter to MMS??

22. You
May be correct. I must have jumped to a conclusion. There has recently been questions about approvals that have been given to drill in Canadian Arctic waters and the companies have been trying to obtain a relaxation of safeguards.

Seems from rereading that you are correct.

23. It is my opinion that they should stop all drilling
in the US until they figure out "everything" that went wrong in the gulf. Regulations, safety, faulty equipment. human error, greed. You name it and it all should be checked out. If they do not the people will not put up with anyone making any mistake again. I hope!!

Was not trying to correct you, it just sounded to me like they were drilling in US waters.
