Primaries put Republicans on notice
Edited on Wed May-19-10 10:44 PM by TomCADem

Reporting from San Francisco and WashingtonRepublicans got a wake-up call this week.

For months, the GOP has been buoyed by the notion that 2010 will be a big year, delivering control of the House and perhaps even the Senate in November. But Tuesday's election results — arguably the best campaign day for Democrats since President Obama's victory in 2008 — suggest the climb back to a majority may be steeper than Republicans thought.

Democrats nominated probably their strongest Senate contender in Pennsylvania, where Rep. Joe Sestak eliminated party-switcher Arlen Specter. In Kentucky's Senate contest, Democrats drew their preferred opponent in state "tea party" founder Rand Paul (though he could be underestimated in the fall as he was this spring.)

Probably the most significant outcome, however, was the Democratic victory in a special House race in rural Pennsylvania. The district — anti-abortion, gun-loving, wary of Washington — is precisely the sort of place Republicans need to prevail to win back the House.

It seems like the corporate media is surprised that reality is not following the corporate media created narrative that the American public is going to come back to the Republicans in the next election.

1. Yep. I've been saying for months that the Ds will do just fine in Nov.
I have a few wagers out there with some Rs I know in other newsgroups.

The fact is that the Rs peaked way too early on their favorables. Those were going to be hard to sustain, especially with the economy improving, heath care passed and financial reform in the wind.

Ds will hold both Houses of Congress and may not even lose seats.

"It seems like the corporate media is surprised that reality is not following the corporate media created narrative that the American public is going to come back to the Republicans in the next election."

Their surprise is because they thought "the rubes had bought it again." Bought their bogus bullshit -- hook line and sinker like always. Not this time. So they are the ones who're finding out that they're not as good at gaming folks as they thought they were. They've pushed all the panic buttons and blew the whistles of fear on schedule -- and still their Taskmasters are being thrown out on their asses.

- I don't think they have a script for this. What to do??????

My take: The Progressive movement (which is responsible for these electoral outcomes) is not under the control or influence of any political establishment the media is aligned with. Real change does not come from within political Parties, it has always come from "Authentic Political Movements" ( my terminology). Thom Hartman helped me realize the truth of this.

Amen
