UK's first abortion services ad created by Marie Stopes
Source: BBC News

An advertisement for abortion services is to be screened for the first time on UK television next week.

The campaign for unplanned pregnancy and abortion advice at Marie Stopes clinics will raise awareness of sexual health, the organisation said.

The screenings on Channel 4 will start at 2210 BST on 24 May and run until the end of June.

The advertisement asks "Are you late?" and points those facing an unplanned pregnancy to Marie Stopes International's 24-hour helpline.

I posted this here because I doubt you have the same in the USA. If I'm wrong then by all means move to the UK Forum where it will probably be ignored because its no big deal - we're not still Victorian.

1. If that ran here our wingers would go insane, no doubt about it. Foaming-at-the-mouth insane.
War is fine with them, as long as all the people who disappear under a bomb or a hail of bullets, or white phospherous are all brown skinned, or black, or Asian, or leftists, or possible leftists.

Abortion is a sin. If only all fetuses could be delivered, and live a short time outside the mother's body, THEN it would be fine to zap 'em on the spot, so they won't ever need any government assistance of any kind.

2. Abortion ad blocked in Northern IrelandChannel 4
Abortion ad blocked in Northern Ireland
Channel 4 has banned Marie Stopes advert from being broadcast in Northern Ireland, where abortion is still illegal
Henry McDonald, Ireland correspondent guardian.co.uk, Thursday 20 May 2010 10.24 BST

Channel 4 has banned an advertisement for abortion services from being broadcast in Northern Ireland.

Millions of viewers in England, Scotland and Wales will be able to watch the TV ad for Marie Stopes International (MSI) on Channel 4 at 10.10pm tonight.

But the UK's fourth channel has been prevented from screening the commercial for MSI in Northern Ireland because abortion is still illegal in the province. Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK where the 1967 Abortion Act does not apply. All of the political parties in the Stormont assembly, except the Progressive Unionists, are opposed to the extension of the act to Northern Ireland.

Anti-abortion groups in Northern Ireland said they welcomed legislation blocking the ad from being broadcast, but they were angry that it would be screened elsewhere in the UK.

3. They can probably pick up the mainland transmitter too
aside from which if they're getting CH4 on either cable or Sky I guess they'll see the ads anyway. Its odd how they want to part of the UK as opposed to the Republic but only when they feel like it. The girls just pop over here for abortions as do the girls in the Republic.

:hi:

7. Sure. But it's not quite a 'pop', I'm very sure, for anybody.

Nobody likes it. But the inevitable alternatives, for so many, can be so much worse.

It's better to intervene, on well-informed request, and I would like to emphasise well-informed, legally, in professsional medical hands.

6. It will still be viewable on the high definition Channel 4 channel in NI.
Only the SD versions of Channel 4 are regionalised.

4. First TV ad, but poster ads for Marie Stopes have been around for decades
I saw them before I knew what abortion was, I think.
