General Electric Coffee Maker Recalled From Walmart Stores
Source: ABC News

Approximately 900,000 General Electric branded 12-cup digital coffee makersare being recalled, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Walmart announced.

The coffee makers have the potential to overheat and could cause burns or a fire, according to the CPSC.

The recall, announced this morning, is for the white and black coffee makers with model numbers 169164 and 169165. The GE logo and model numbers are on the bottom of the base, according to the CPSC.

The $30 coffee makers were sold at Walmart stores across the country from March 2008 to January 2010, according to the CPSC.

Walmart received 83 reports of smoking, melting, overheating, burning and fire, the CPSC said in a statement. That included three reports of burn injuries.

10. +1
I've been using them for years. People refer to it as 'fancy', which cracks me up since all it is is a glass thing with a plunger. Boil the water, pour it in, wait 4 minutes, and voila. I use an electric kettle but stovetop works fine.

The only danger is that I break the glass about once a year, but my favorite hardware store actually sells the things, so I just get a new one (with a few days of 'cowboy coffee' till I make it to the store). I could switch to the metal ones but I'm a creature of habit I guess.

2. Sold for two years. It's okay because most have reached the end of their useful life anyway.

A lot of companies lower their standards for Walmart versions of the same stuff they sell elsewhere.

Snapper (lawnmowers) stopped supplying to walmart because they couldn't/wouldn't do it.

12. Good for Snapper
I salute any company who refuses to compromise quality to satisfy the price demands of the big box retailers.

5. I actually have one of these!
I'm a coffee nut, and that morning coffee is an absolute necessity for me. I had a cuisinart that was very expensive, but literally "died" every single time I tried to run vinegar through the machine. I finally got tired of taking them back and getting a new one. After reading reviews online, others were having the same problem. I really like this GE coffee maker, it's very reliable, doesn't die when you clean it, and it's worked great!! I will say that the flavor of the coffee was better in the cuisinart. So I'm kind of bummed now. How frigging hard is it to make a decent automatic coffee maker???

6. I can't stand these new machines.
Bought a glass(pyrex) percolator that sits on the stove.
Great coffee in 10 minutes. No calcium to clean, just rinse, refill and put it on the stove.
