BP has fallen short in providing oil leak data, says US
Source: BBC News

BP has "fallen short" in providing data about the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, the US government has said, in its latest critical letter to the firm.

The Obama administration said the British energy giant should act in a "transparent manner" and "promptly" make all information public.

The Obama administration asked BP to make public all measurements of the growing leak, air and water quality samples, trajectories of underwater plumes and locations of dispersants.

The request came in a letter to BP CEO Tony Hayward from Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa Jackson.

1. I would love to see some arrests, but our politicos are too milquetoast
to do anything meaningful like that.

5. Yep. They are the epitome of wimpiness; a bunch of cringing weenies who worry about niceties.
We wouldn't be saying this if we had a "Grayson administration" or a "Franken administration". 2012 can't come soon enough.

Obama administration says BP has ‘fallen short’ on transparency, demands new data

Top Obama administration officials said Thursday that BP is failing to keep the government and public informed about the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, and ordered the company to quickly publish environmental monitoring data and other information.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa Jackson and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, in a letter Thursday to BP CEO Tony Hayward, say BP transparency efforts have “fallen short in both their scope and effectiveness.”

“In order to meet BP’s responsibilities and to fulfill this obligation, BP must make publicly available any data and other information related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill that you have collected, or that will be collected in the future,” the letter adds.

It instructs BP to quickly provide sampling and monitoring plans and records, videos and other data — including reports of internal investigations. The letter gives BP 24 hours to provide the Coast Guard and EPA the Web address where the information will be posted.

8. New Data???
This oil volcano has been exploding for nearly a month! The time
for data has passed.

That's like asking Charles Manson for his appointment book, after he's
killed several people in cold blood!

For the love of Pete!!

I'm sure BP is shaking in their boots. Oh no!!! They're going to make
them give up DATA!!!! DATA!!!!!!

9. This is garbage
there should have been government agents on their backs since this started. It is like let a murderer clean up the crime scene before they let the police in. They should be treated like murderers like they are.

16. Look at the way this has unfolded
Nothing to worry about for the first days, oil flowing more than stated. if the government was sticking to them like glue then the government is just as libel as the oil companies and we have a right to know this. Do you have any evidence to state that bp is being monitored 24/7??

17. Fucking Federalize the whole area. Declare it a national emergency and a crime scene
God, nobody but the most fringe Republicans would complain if the government took everything over.

No excuse to not have the Cost Guard/Navy be point on this with the rest of the government in tow with BP and its assets seized to facilitate the solution.
