US cartoonist disavows 'Draw Mohammed' Facebook page
Source: AFP

WASHINGTON — An American cartoonist whose work inspired the controversial "Everybody Draw Mohammed Page" on Facebook has condemned the effort and issued an apology to Muslims.

Molly Norris, of Seattle, drew a cartoon in April to protest the decision by the US television channel Comedy Central to cancel an episode of the popular show "South Park" over its depiction of the Prophet Mohammed in a bear suit.

In her cartoon, Norris satirically proposed May 20 as an "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day."

An "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day" page quickly turned up on Facebook but Norris, writing on her website at mollynorris.com, said she had nothing to do with it.

3. Why not read the article? She's disturbed by the hatred and bigotry that's erupted...
I'm not sure how anyone could read the article and come up with a response such as yrs...

2. This sort of pisses me off.
Has FACEBOOK condemned the prayer (implying praying for his death) for Obama? How about the one "Can this goat get more fans than Obama."

At least try to be consistant when apologizing for offending someone.

7. Don't worry. Travel gets me like that too...
Especially if it's flying. fwiw, I would have been very surprised if Facebook had apologised, as the only thing I know that they've apologised for (and quite rightly) was their tardiness in closing down a 'memorial' group for a murdered child where images of child pornography and bestiality was being published by some sickos. Facebook as far as I know doesn't apologise for what users post, but will (sometimes very slowly) take action against a user if what's being posted is illegal...

10. Thanx!
Got up at 4am today to get to the airport for a 7:30am flight. Nearly 6 hours in the air followed by 2 hours of horrendous traffic. That and the 3 voicemails on my phone when the plane landed that my cat is sick.

Not a good start to my vacation.

I haven't even checked my Facebook page. Sigh.

THink I nee to just call it a night before I get into any more misundertandings. ;-)

5. Good for him. That whole South Park incident stinks
Edited on Thu May-20-10 08:30 PM by Catherina
No Muslim I know ever heard of the group that went after South Park. Then I learned that the head of the obscure 5-10 person group that made the threat was

Yousef al-Khattab, born Joseph Cohen, an American Jew who converted to Islam in 2000 after living in Israel and attending an orthodox rabbinical school there, then returned to New York.

Some of the stuff going on today just doesn't add up and this sounds like a CIA op.

I'm not getting in the middle of any crazy's holy war or counter operations. Molly Norris should be ashamed of herself.

8. Good for them.
IMO nobody should really suggest an "Everybody Draw (fill in the blank) Day" especially if it's a religious icon.

Should Muslims have a draw Jesus day? That might turnout to be a bit disrespectful to Christians?
Should there be a draw Buddha day? That might disrespect the Buddhists.
Should there be a draw Satan day? That might anger Fox News viewers and Glenn Beck.

Bawahhhaahaa!
