Nixon Grandson Seeks U.S. House Seat
Source: CNN.com

(CNN) - You may not have Richard Nixon to kick around anymore, but they do on Long Island.

Meet Christopher Nixon Cox, congressional candidate from the Hamptons and grandson of the nation's 37th president. Cox, a 30-year-old Republican business consultant, is hoping to ride a wave of voter anger all the way to Washington.

And in a race where he's trying to emerge from a crowded primary field and topple a four-term Democratic incumbent, he's not shying away from his family's controversial political past.

"When voters think about it, it'll be a big positive," he predicted.

Just what this country needs; an uber-rich businessman from the Hamptons to help this country get back on track!

9. But I'm sure that he knows what it's like to be an average American.
I mean he probably had to work his way up from the bottom. :sarcasm:

I wonder if he's ever even heard the term "Minimum Wage"? He probably started life as a trust fund millionaire brat and worked his way up to obnoxious millionaire adult.

My signature line seems very appropriate at times like this.

16. Thank you for expounding on my statement, it needed clarification.
What I should have said was; has he ever held a job that paid minimum wage?

I'm sure that you're correct about his compensation to the little people (better known as the working class) that work for him.

18. Ironically, his maternal grandparents didn't come from that.
Now let it never be said that the current Republican Party isn't worrying itself sick about some heir or heiress paying the estate tax, or that some kid receives the benefits of SCHIP (Remember the sliming of Graeme Frost?).

But I'd point out that though Richard Nixon will forever be associated with the politics of dirty tricks and resentment, etc., much of which remains in the Karl Rove-style machinations today, the man himself didn't come from wealth. If you ever get a chance, read Gloria Steinem's essay "Patricia Nixon Flying" (published in Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions), in which she recounts her efforts to interview Pat Nixon during the 1968 campaign. It's both revealing and strangely poignant.

20. You're correct and it is possible that he's not like Tricky Dick.
Pat Nixon would have been a good role model if only she had made a better choice in marriage. She really did know what it was like to have to work for everything.

Hopefully, her grandson (if elected) will be more like his Grandmother.

7. I believe his father is Chairman of...
the state GOP, so he may have an advantage in the primaries there.

The scary thing is that he's only 30 - when Congressional candidates are starting to be younger than me (I'm 31) - that makes me feel old.

of his grandfather's presidency.

....facepalm.....

10. Cox. How very apropos...
Cox will make for stiff opposition if his campaign doesn't become flaccid in the later stages. Apparently, he's got quite a head on his shoulders and stands firmly above the nuts that surround him as a Republican. His rigid attention to doctrine will serve him well as he makes his deep thrust into liberal territory, implanting the seed of conservatism before withdrawing. I believe he will take matters in his own hands if he must...

I doubt he's much like Granpappy, except the crook part, of course.

If Dick Nixon were running for office today the Teabaggers would be screaming "RINO!" at him.

19. How does a 30 year old become a business consultant?
Seriously. Don't consultants have practical experience in the field in which they consult?

Much as I hate Nixon, I wouldn't hold it against him, because I actually somewhat admire his grandmother (to a degree).
