Sarah Palin Takes Stand on Immigration
Source: ABC News

"I think every other state on the border should emulate what Arizona has done," she said on FOX News Wednesday night. "Jan Brewer, the governor of Arizona, has taken upon herself, her state government, to do what the feds should have been doing all along and say, 'No, we're going to secure this border.' "From there, then, once that is taken care of, we can deal with those who are here illegally and we can figure out all that immigration reform that needs to take place. Yes, other states should do what Arizona is doing," she said.

"She had actually been fairly positive about immigration reform as a vice presidential candidate," said Frank Sharry, executive director of America's Voices, a liberal-leaning immigration reform group that immediately criticized Palin.

"When she decided to embrace the Arizona show-me-your-papers law, we thought it justified criticizing her for embracing a law that institutionalized racial and ethnic discrimination," Sharry said.

As a vice-presidential candidate, Palin told Spanish-language television network Univision during an interview Oct. 26, 2008, "There is no way that in the U.S. we would roundup every illegal immigrant ... there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants. ... Not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue."

So Palin's "Secure the Border" mantra is a flip-flop from her 2008 stance. Not surprising. The republican base/tea baggers she is appealing to don't want to hear about comprehensive immigration reform. "Secure the border" is short, catchy, scary and let's you know who the enemy is (the one you're securing the border against). Imagine a republican using a slogan that creates fear and offers simplistic solutions. ;)

8. Borderism

Same old. Only 'moran's that love that MILF overlook the obvious truth.
Why do they hop the border? Typical Tea response 'for social services'.
Wrong. While some use them...the main reason is to get work...for jobs.
So how do we stop them? Stop hiring them. Huge fine for first offenses.
Second offense, lose business license. There would be huge compliance.
The recession is proof ... the lack of jobs actually had many going back.
Arizona had such a law-it got watered down due to business complaints.
So they instead go after the supply, and not the demand. Election time.
Time to posture as if they actually care, and wanted to solve problems.

4. The "Mexicans" & others come from a genetic lineage that has been on North America forever
-- at least 16,000 years or more, long before people started drawing puny little pen lines on bits of paper and claiming (based on the Bull of a Pope) that they 'own' this bit or that bit, and 'strangers' are unwelcome.

How long have the oil-crony republicon bozos who are promoting this law been on North America?

7. Given Palin's determination to appear only on friendly ground "FOX", Facebook, etc...
I really wish every other media outlet would freeze her out of coverage.

Someone on Morning Joe commented on this recent verbage and said that Sarah has perfected the task of appealing to her base while making no effort to expand her reach or appeal to any other group.

9. And pretty soon Bush is gonna agree with Palin?
Edited on Fri May-21-10 01:58 PM by alp227
Back in 2005 or so, President Bush proposed a guest worker programme among other things in a reform bill but the anti-immigrant wing of the GOP gagged the bill. So far Bush hasn't said a darn thing about Arizona's SB1070.

As for Palin, this is a dumb pandering flip-flop. But hey, President Obama flip-flopped on the public option too!

10. Why are we (M$M) even listening to her? She's a pop culture icon now...
and nothing more. IMO, she gave up the privilege of 'politician' when she quit her day job.

Sarah, go back into the hole that you crawled out of!

Has she Tweeted it yet? :)

13. Hey Sarah, can you even define emulate?
Sarah: "Emulate. E ... uh M . . ummm..U"

Teacher: "No, Sarah. I did not ask you to spell emulate, I asked you to define emulate."

Sarah: "I quit."

Next on "Pull the Covers off the Douchebag" we interview Rand Paul.
