Ariz. Gov.: Send Guard choppers from other states

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is asking President Barack Obama to reallocate National Guard helicopters from other states to help Arizona secure its border with Mexico.

Brewer made the request in a letter to Obama dated Thursday and released Friday.

She says Arizona only has four OH-58 Kiowa helicopters available for border missions because some choppers are deployed overseas and others are reserved for training missions.

Brewer requests that additional helicopters be freed up from training missions or taken from other states and assigned to the southwestern border.

have already said they have a bill like that or want one. That's almost a fifth of the states.

fine/jail employers but no one will do either one of those. Helicopters can kick up the sand a bit or take photos or call for the understaffed border patrol to come but by the time they arrive, it will be too late to make a difference. It is not possible to "secure the border".

Dear Governor Brewer:

Arizona is in the throes of an addiction--an addiction to cheap labor, which can only be satisfied by illegal immigrants. Those people are not coming to the United States in search of healthcare, education or other social services. They're looking for jobs. So long as your employers feel it's justified to pay Mexicans five bucks an hour to haul 90-pound bundles of shingles up a ladder all day long, you're going to have illegal immigration.

Let me give you a little piece of advice: Tell that worthless, corrupt bastard Arpaio to quit setting up roadblocks and instead get someone to go to roofing jobs and landscaping jobs and start checking green cards. Five will get you twenty maybe two guys on the whole worksite will have them. The reason's simple: legal workers have to be paid the legal minimum wage. You know all those contractors running around Phoenix with "we will beat any bid" painted on the sides of their trucks? The only way they can possibly pull it off and still make a profit, is to use the cheapest labor available. That sort of labor is not in this country legally.

I know, I know, your infamous law requires companies who get caught employing illegals to fire them all when they're discovered. That looks more like a "don't get caught" law than any serious attempt at shutting down the employment of illegals.

I'll tell you what. You write a law that specifies jail time for the presidents and HR managers of companies who employ illegals, put at least fifty corporate CEOs and an equal number of HR managers in jail for a minimum of one year for employing illegal immigrants, and leave them there for the duration of their sentences, and we'll give you twelve brand-new, never-been-to-Iraq Black Hawk helicopters. But if you don't fix the law the way we want you to, we have 49 states who have plenty of use for the helicopters your National Guard already has.

The military has a new light helicopter, the Lacota, that is supposed to replace all the deployable hardware. A dozen of those would not be difficult to come up with.

The Guard could patrol the border, swoop down on the illegals, issue them guest worker visas, and be on their way. I suppose we could load the choppers with satellite uplinks to record the visas, photos & thumbprints so they could feel all "Go Army" about it.

Guard forces, doesn't he have to nationalize them? And once nationalized, they operate under Title 10 and can't perform law enforcement functions. It's one of those slippery slopes.
