Palin suggests Obama oil ties impede spill cleanup The White House responds by questioning her info
Source: LA Times

Pointing to what she termed the White House's relationship with "the oil companies who have so supported President Obama in his campaign and are supportive of him now," Palin questioned whether "there's any connection there to President Obama taking so doggone long to get in there, to dive in there, and grasp the complexity and the potential tragedy that we are seeing here in the Gulf of Mexico."

Gibbs, on CBS News' "Face the Nation," suggested Palin do some homework.

"I'm almost sure that the oil companies don't consider the Obama administration a huge ally," Gibbs said. "We proposed a windfall profits tax when they jacked their oil prices up to charge more for gasoline."

Gibbs said, "My suggestion to Sarah Palin would be to get slightly more informed as to what's going on in and around oil drilling in this country."

appointing Bush to the presidency, invading Iraq, flooding New Orleans, and creating Justin Beiber.

14. Whether or not Obama deserves or not blame for anything else or not
Palin's comments were ridiculous on their own. The other topic is raging in a number of threads, so there's no reason to gratuitously graft it into this one.

32. I think we know the most important stuff
HUGE oil volcano
30+ days and counting, no end in sight for 90 days (if then)
no good estimate of amount of oil from BP, government does nothing for 30+ days about this
Government says stop using Corexit, BP says FU - nothing happens
government says no waivers permits, they happen anyway

So tell me the wonderful things Obama has done for the last 30 days that we are so ignorant of?

33. Last I checked Obama's degree is Constitutional Law
not shutting off a damn well that "Free Market- deregulated market" BP supposedly is the expert. They are supposedly the professionals.

What the President can do is start heavily fining BP for every day the leak is not stopped. Criminal charges are being looked at now.

35. Yes criminal charges ARE being looked at.
And no, the President doesn't "know anything" about capping oil wells. Do you? Does anyone here on DU know one real damn thing about it? Do you think FINING them will hurry them up one WHIT? Don't you believe that BP is shitting their pants every single damn second it continues? Yes they must be "punished" for what happened, but beating them while they're trying to clean it up is a bit of overkill and quite counterproductive.

The focus must be:

1. Stop the gusher.
2. Stop the spread.
3. Clean up the mess.
4. Fine their asses.
5. Send people to jail if there is indeed criminal negligence (which there probably is).

In the meantime, all the stupid bs being posted isn't getting one damn thing DONE.

I think BP has proven they don't know what they are doing, the doors need to be opened to the world experts in this field. Tomorrow should BP's last chance if they fail then the government should step in and force BP to accept help.

said (supposedly) FU? Do you know anything at all about this dispersant and about what is out there to replace it with? I mean, other than what you heard on Fox?

What has been done is out there. I'm sure you can find it if you just look in the right places.

Where elaine and george borrow jerry's car. And during it's use, they screw it up somehow, so they have to create a story to cover for their screw up.

So while they are relating the story to jerry, elaine is just making it up as she goes along.

she is so bad at it, it's really funny.

However, we have our own "elaine moment" with quitter failin, just spewing bullshit off the top of her head trying to convince us that she is telling the truth.

30. Gibbs is soooo subtle....
He said: "My suggestion to Sarah Palin would be to get slightly more informed..."
Slightly?

LOL... She needs to go back to Middle School,
and get classes in basic civics,
English, public speaking, some logic, (but anything that
theoretical might be too much for her)
AND a coach to wean her off of "MIddle School Mean Girls attitude."

When I was in graduate school, a very wise academic advisor told us:
"If you're going to work with the public, you want to engender the
appearance of trustworthiness. Being sarcastic puts up walls of
defensiveness, and denies trust."

39. There is a bit of an image problem.
I don't dig for the primary sources but it seems like BP was a big contributor to Obama's campaign. That does not mean anything in itself but I think most thinking people would admit it does not look too great. I don't think its his style but I think he would do himself a favor by whowing a little more outrage about this situation. Please understand I do NOT think President Obama is beholden to BP, only saying it does not look great and lends itself to soundbite politics.

Of corse, it is the height of idiocy/hypocrisy for Sarah Palin to say ANYTHING after the "Drill, Baby, Drill" idiotic mantra.

40. "Plug the damn hole!"
Edited on Wed May-26-10 09:49 AM by CarlaLevin
I just read that President Obama made this angry statement privately to aides. I wish he would have said it publicly. He has enough intellectual credibility built up that he doesn't have to worry about being interpreted as simplisitc but I really think a little more vicible outrage would be a good thing.

"And while we're at it can we plug the damn hole that is Sarah Palin's yapper." The president did NOT say that and it is not my line but it fits the thread!
