Iraqi who won seat in parliament shot dead - police
Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - Gunmen killed an Iraqi politician who had won a seat in parliament for the Iraqiya coalition headed by former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, in the restive northern city of Mosul on Monday, police said.

Bashar al-Hamid was wounded in the chest in the attack in front of his home in western Mosul and died a short time later, police said.

"Gunmen assassinated Bashar al-Hamid from the Iraqiya list," said Police Captain Mohammed Taher said.

Hamid's driver also was wounded, police said.

"We heard the sound of shooting then we came out immediately. We found them lying on the ground and chaos surrounded the area," said Ali Hassan, a neighbour. "The relatives who were with Hamid said that the gunmen were on foot."

3. The article says it "will further fuel tensions"
I think that ship has sailed. An assassination isn't a sign of high tensions, it means the powder keg has exploded.
